6、epenniless.Actually,theeightyearsofhappinessmighthavefeltlikeasmallvacationtoapersonwholivedduringthetime.BABYBOOMERSBaby BoomersisthenamegiventothegenerationofAmericanswhowereborninababyboomfollowingWorldWarII.TheyoungestgroupofBabyBoomersaremanagingtheMillennialsandGeneration-Xgroupsofemployees-an

7、dinsomecases,beingmanagedbythem.TheUnitedStatesexperiencedanexplosionofbirths(hencethenamebabyboom)thatcontinuedforthenext18years,whenthebirthratebegantodrop.In1964,babyboomersrepresented40%ofthepopulation,whichmeansthatmorethanonethirdofthepopulationwasunder19yearsofage.Sincebabyboomersmakeupsuchas

10、heboomwas1957,when4.3millionboomerswereborn.Whyittookover10yearsforsomanypost-WorldWarIIfamiliestogetgoingisamatterofspeculation.Forthe5-yearperiodbetween1956and1960,inclusive,21.2millionboomerswereborn,nearly11/2timesthenumberbornbetween1941and1945,andthelargestforany5-yearperiodinthe20thcentury.Bo

15、eoflifestylesthanpreviousgenerations.WeanedonMTVandcabletelevision,theyarelargelyimmunetotraditionaladvertising.Facedwithstagnantwagesandhighdebt,theyaremorecostconsciousthanfree-spendingboomers.MILLENNIALSTheGenerationYaresometimescalledtheTrophyGeneration,orTrophyKids,atermthatreflectsthetrendinco

16、mpetitivesports(aswellasmanyotheraspectsoflife)wherenoonelosesandeveryonegetsaThanksforParticipatingtrophy.Trophykidsdevelopedpressuretoexcelnotonlyinschool,butalsohobbies,sportsandservicework.Arecentsurvey,theyfoundthat97%ofstudentsownedacomputer,94%ownedacellphone,and56%ownedanmp3player(iPod,Zune,
