1、Transferred Epithet(移就) Definition：A transferred epithet is，as its name implies, a figure of speech where an epithet( an adjective or descriptive phrase )is transferred from the none it should rightly modify to another to which it does not really belong. Generally, the epithet is transferred from a

2、person to a thing or idea. 移就 Transferred Epithet是 英 语 中 常 用 的 一 种 修辞 格 ， 汉 译 “ 移 就 修 饰 ” ， 亦 称 “ 转 移 修饰 ” ， “ 移 位 修 饰 ” 或 简 称 “ 移 就 ” 。 这种 修 辞 格 一 是 把 本 来 应 该 用 来 修 饰 甲 事 物性 质 或 状 态 的 词 用 来 修 饰 了 乙 事 物 ， 转 个弯 子 击 表 示 甲 事 物 给 人 的 感 觉 。 在 现 代 英语 中 ， 最 常 见 的 是 把 本 来 用 以 修 饰 人 的 词组 甩 来 修 饰 事 物 。 二 是 从

It is illogical（不合逻辑的） and unreasonable in surface structure but reasonable and just in deep structure. Eg. The thief made a trembling（恐惧的、焦虑的） confession of his wrong doing. 2 There is a c

12、, exchanging smiling words.他 们 边 笑 边 谈 ， 以 此 延 长 握 手 时 间 ， 好 让 摄 影 师拍 照 。 什么叫移就甲乙两项关联，就把原来属于形容甲事物的修饰语移属乙事物，叫移就。移就是一种超乎常格的语言现象，也是词语搭配的创造性运用。通过词语的移用，将人的情绪、状态同事物联系起来，不需要耗费更多的笔墨，极简练地把人的情绪、思想、性格鲜明地表达出来，或将事物的形状、本质突出出来，而且使语言出奇制胜，富于变化，饶有情趣。 移就的种类 移人于物和移物于物 移人于物，就是把原来形容人的修饰语移用于物。 郁 达 夫 还 乡 记 中 ： “ 我 女 人 经 过

13、的 悲 哀 的 足 迹 ， 现 在有 我 一 步 步 的 践 踏 过 去 ！ ” “ 悲 哀 ” 原 是 表 现 人 的 心 情 悲凉 、 哀 伤 ， 这 里 用 来 修 饰 “ 足 迹 ” 。 朱 自 清 荷 塘 月 色 中 ： “ 叶 子 底 下 是 脉 脉 的 流水 。 ” “ 脉 脉 ” 是 指 默 默 地 用 眼 神 或 行 动 表 达 情 意 ， 形 容人 含 情 的 样 子 ， 有 “ 脉 脉 含 情 ” “ 盈 盈 一 水 间 ， 脉 脉 不 得语 ” 之 词 句 ， 这 里 却 用 来 修 饰 “ 流 水 ” 。 陆 游 过 采 石 有 感 ： “ 明 日 重 寻 石 头 路

14、 ， 醉 鞍 谁 与共 联 翩 。 ” “ 醉 ” 的 本 是 放 翁 ， 表 现 其 情 态 ， 这 里 却 移 用于 “ 鞍 ” 。 移物于物，把形容甲事物的修饰语移用于乙事物。 如 ： 鲁 迅 纪 念 刘 和 珍 君 中 把 描 摹 颜 色 的 “ 浓 黑 ” 用来 修 饰 “ 悲 凉 ” ， 表 现 “ 悲 凉 ” 的 沉 重 浓 烈 ： “ 我 将 深 味 这 非 人 间 的 浓 黑 的 悲 凉 ” 峻 青 海 滨 仲 夏 夜 中 “ 晚 霞 ” 原 不 会 “ 燃 烧 ” ，这 里 却 把 此 词 移 用 来 形 容 “ 晚 霞 ” 的 形 态 和 色 彩 。 “ 西 边 的 天 空 ， 还 燃 烧 着 一 片 橘 红 色 的 晚 霞 。 ” 李 瑛 一 月 的 哀 思 中 把 描 摹 颜 色 的 “ 苍 白 ” 同 来修 饰 “ 日 子 ” ， 表 现 “ 日 子 ” 让 人 伤 恸 ： “ 我 不 相 信 ， 一 九 七 六 年 的 日 历 ， 会 埋 藏 着 这 样 苍白 的 日 子 。 ” Thank you
