33、mmar主句(Main or Principal Clause)与从句(Subordinate Clause)一个大句子里所含的小句子称为从句。1. 脱离句子仍能独立表达完整意义即是主句,也称为独立分句(Independent Clause)。否则即是从句,又称为不独立分句(Dependent Clause)。(1)I will go if I am invited.I will go这个分句是个完整的意思表示,可以独立成为一个句子,所以是主句。if I am invited显然不是一个完整的意思表示,也当然不是个主句,它只是个从句。(2) Please come over again whe

34、n you have time.Please come over again是个完整的意思表示,所以是主句。when you have time不能表示完整的意义,只是个从句。(3)The person we plan to hire for the job is Mr.A.we plan to hire for the job好像是个可以独立的从句,其实不然,它是个由关系代词 whom 引领的从句,该关系代词 whom 是在该从句的主语 we 之前,为什么见不到呢? 因为做宾语用的关系代词可以省略。另一个分句the person is Mr.A(此人是A先生),既有主语与动词又能表示完整的意

35、思,所以是主句。2.从句的种类从句依其在全句中对于主句里的某一部分所起的作用而分为名词从句、形容词从句与状语從句三种。无论是哪一种从句,都是由从属连词带领。Learn the grammar in detail.请预览后下载!1.名词从句(Noun Clause):在主句里充当名词作用的从句称为名词从句。 如:(1)Whether the proposal will be accepted remains to be seen.whether the proposal will be accepted是做主句(亦即全句)的主语,所以是个名词从句。(2)The trouble is that w

36、e are short of money.that we are short of money这个从句是接在 be 动词 is 之后做主语补语。尽管做主语的补语除了名词而外,还有形容词甚至副词,但是:做补语的 that 从句都属于名词从句。(3)Everyone knows that whomever you nominate will have my support.(每个人都知道你提名的任何人都会得到我的支援。)that whomever you nominate will have my support是个名词从句,因为它是做主句(亦即全句)里的动词 knows 的宾语。whomever

37、 you nominate也是个名词从句(主语是 you,动词是 nominate),做 that-clause(即前述的名词从句)里的主语,其动词是 will have。2.形容词从句(Adjective Clause):修饰主句里的名词或代词的从句都称为形容词从句。如:(1)I wont tell you the name of the person who gave me the information.(我不会把提供我情报的那个人的名字告诉你。)who gave me the information这个从句(主语是关系代词 who,动词是 gave)是修饰主句里的名词 person(介

38、词 of 的宾语)的,所以是个形容词从句。(2)Thats one of the reasons why I hate you.(那是我恨你的诸多原因之一。)why I hate you是修饰在主句里做介词 of 的宾语的名词 reasons 的,所以是形容词从句。Examples are supported to the students to help the students understand the grammar better.请预览后下载!3.状语(Adverbial Clause):充当副词作用的从句即称为状语从句。 如:(1)The blackmailer became b

39、old enough to double his demands when he saw how terrified his victim was.when he saw how terrified his victim was是修饰主句里的动词 became(表示转变的时间)的,所以是个状语。在这个从句里又有一个较小的从句how terrified his victim was,是做动词 saw 的宾语,所以是名词从句。(2)My doctor advised me to live where the climate is dry.where the climate is dry是修饰主句里

40、不定词 to live 的,所以是状语。(3)Please write to me at once if you have any suggestion.if you have any suggestion是说明动词 write 的条件,所以是状语。(4)She worked as though her life depended on it.as though her life depended on it是叙述动词 worked 的态度,所以是状语。(5)She left because she had another appointment.because she had another

41、 appointment是说明动词 left 的原因,所以是状语。(6)Please notify your instructor promptly (in order) that a makeup examination may be scheduled.(in order) that a makeup examination may be scheduled是说明动词 notify 的目的,所以是状语。其中的 in order 可以省略。3.要点提示两个并列的独立从句之间的并列连词之前应该有逗点,但从句很短时,该逗点可以省略。再者,此种作用的并列连词and可以用分号(;)代替。还有,如果从
