They are changing rules and using a new approach when it comes to punishmentinstead of sending students home, they are keeping more troublemakers at school. Students who break

10、 school rules are still suspended, but must stay on school grounds, where they catch up on homework, write personal goals, or clean up the school.The school officials are also concerned about teens falling behind in school. “We want to keep students in school because thats our business,” said the sc

He said at-school suspension prevents the “snowball effect”, when a student who gets in trouble in one class is sent home for a few days and ends up behind in all six classes.In several schools, teachers or school staff watch over suspended students. Some schools call their

12、 at-school suspension classes “opportunity rooms”. Educators say these places are where students have the opportunity to turn their lives around. “Behavior is an outward sign of an inner problem in school,” said the school leader Chuck Weis. “Suspension can give us an opportunity to work on the real

13、 problem.”Middle school students from Ventura are sent to a special “suspension school” held on Fridays at Ventura College.
