people concerned, and each language usually has a number of set phrases which can be used for this purpose.Sometimes there are considerable differences in the type of phrases which can be used and cultural misunderstanding can easily result. The following is a true example.A young British woman went to Hong Kong to work, and at the time of her arrival she knew nothing about the Chinese culture or language. On her way to school one day she went to the bank to get some money. To her surprise, the bank clerk asked her if she had her lunch. She was extremely surprised at such a question because in the British culture it would be regarded as an indirect invitation to lunch.Between unmarried young people it can also indicate the young mans interest in dating the girl;so since this bank clerk was a complete stranger to the British girl, she was very much surprised and hastily commented that she had eaten already. After this she proceeded to school and was even more surprised when one of the teachers asked her the same question.By now,she realized that it could not be an invitation, but was puzzled as to why they asked it,in the following days, she was asked the same question again and again, and she spent hours trying to work out why so many people kept asking her this.Eventually she came to a conclusion:the people must be concerned about her health. She was somewhat underweight at the time and so she concluded they must be worried that she was not eating properly!Only much later did she discover that the question had no real significance at allit was merely a greeting.41The main idea of first paragraph is_.Acultural differences can be the main reason for misunderstandingsBdifferences in greetings may lead to cultural misunderstandingsCdifferent people should use misunderstood the question again by thinking that people were concerned about her health because_.Ashe was in poor healthBshe was not eating properlyCshe was a person of significanceDshe was somewhat thin【解析】从最后一段的第二句话中的underweight可知答案。 D44“The question”that people kept asking the British woman should be understood as_.A“Are you hungry?”B“Have you eaten your lunch?”C“May I invite you to have a lunch?”D“How are you?”【解析】在中国人们互相打招呼,会问“你吃了吗?” D45The British woman felt puzzled because_.Ashe was asked the same question again and againBshe found out what the question really meantCthe bank clerk asked her if she had her lunchDthey did not invite her for lunch【解析】细节题。 APart of a research study,by scientists at McMaster University, which is ongoing into the effect of drinking milk after heavy weightlifting, has observed that milk helps exercisers burn more fat.The scientists took three groups of young men 18 to 30 years of age,56 in total, and put them through a strict, fivedayperweek weightlifting program over a 12week period.Following their tests, study participants (参与者) drank either two cups of skim milk (脱脂奶),or a soy beverage (豆质饮品) with the same amount of protein and energy,or a carbohydrate beverage (碳酸饮料) with the same amount of energy.Upon the studys conclusion, scientists observed that the milk drinking group had lost nearly twice as much fattwo poundswhile the carbohydrate beverage group lost one pound of fat. Those drinking soy beverage lost no fat.At the same time, the gain in muscle was much greater among the milk drinkers than either the soy beverage or carbohydrate beverage participants. As published in the first stage of the study, the milk drinking group came out on top in terms of muscle gain with an about 40 percent or 2.5 pounds more muscle mass than the soy beverage drinkers. In addition, the soy beverage drinkers gained 63 percent or 3.3 pounds more muscle mass than the carbohydrate beverage drinkers.“I think the evidence is beginning to increase,”says Stuart Phillipsthe leader of the study.“Milk may be best known for its calcium (钙) content in supporting bone health, but our research, and later others, can continually support milks ability to aid in muscle growth and also promote body fat loss.Milk is the ideal postworkout drink for recreational exercisers and athletes alike.”【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了一项研究:举重后喝牛奶有益于增加肌肉和减肥。46According to the study, which is the best drink for exercisers to lose weight?AFruit juice. BSoy beverage.CSkim milk. C47From the passage we can learn that milk has a good effect on all of the following EXCEPT_.Amuscle gain Bbrain developmentCbone health Dfat loss【解析】细节判断题。 B48According to the passage,we can know that_.Athe scientists chose people aged 18,30 and 56 as the participants of the researchBthe weightlifting program lasted for 84 days in total Cpeople who drink milk every day are always healthier and thinner than othersDsoy beverages are better than carbohydrate beverages for exercisers to gain muscle【解析】细节推理题。 根据第二段中的“The scientists took three groups of young men 18 to 30 years of age,56 in total”可知科学家们选择了18岁到30岁之间的年轻人共56名,故A错误;根据第二段中的“put them through a strict, fivedayperweek weightlifting program over a 12week period”可知测试前后经历了60天,故B也是错误的;文章提到喝牛奶可以gain muscle和lose fat,但是并没有提到每天喝牛奶的人会比其他人健康、苗条,故C也错误。 D49What does Phillips want to tell us?AThere will be more evidence to support the result of their research.BMilk has more calcium than soy or carbohydrate beverages.CThe calcium in milk can also help gain muscle and lose fat.DAthletes should be forbidden to drink other beverages except milk.【解析】推理判断题。关键句是最后一段中的“.our research, and later others, can continually support milks ability to aid in muscle growth and also promote body fat loss.” A50What does the passage mainly talk about?AWhat exercisers should do to lose weight.BHow milk influences peoples health and figure.CThe differences between milk and soy or carbohydrate beverages.DA study on the influence of drinking milkgaining muscle and losing fat.【解析】主旨大意题。
