1、Ensenada, Mexico InformationWhere will we be going?The ministry we will be doing will be in an area just South of Ensenada on the road to Bufadora.Who are we going on this trip with?The organization we will be primarily working with is called Baja Bound Ministries. It is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organi
2、zation founded by Pastor John Rose about 10 years ago. They work with churches, orphanages, and childrens homes in Mexico year-round. John Rose is a pastor and church planter in Chula Vista, and also happens to be Bobbys youth pastor from high school.There will also be a group from Los Angeles trave
3、ling with Baja Bound the same week in the area. They will be working on different projects not for from us, and we may join them on evenings throughout the week to worship together.When are we going?We will leave Santa Cruz on Saturday, December 27th, and return to Santa Cruz on Saturday, January 3r
4、d. We will begin ministry in Mexico on Sunday afternoon, leaving the San Diego area around 2pm. Because it is a long drive and that would require us to leave Santa Cruz around 5am, we will drive to Chula Vista on Saturday, instead of Sunday. We will stay in homes and attend John Roses church the nex
5、t morning before driving down to Ensenada, which is about 2 hours past the Mexican/American border.You said drive? How are we getting there?Thafs right, were taking a road trip! Right now the plan is to use at least one of our church vans. The other one may be used if it is in good enough condition
6、to make the trip. Depending on the number of people going, we may rent another van or two, and then we will take a couple of personal vehicles as well. Most personal vehicles will be left in San Diego in a safe place and well take everyone across the border in vans.Do I need a passport to get back a
7、cross the border?To return to the United States, a passport is preferred, but the Border Patrol is also accepting an original copy of a birth certificate AND a valid drivers license or school LD.Is the area safe?The area we will be in is a safe place. Bobby was able to travel to the sites we will be
8、 working at and can confirm that it is safe. The area around Bufadora is a fairly affluent are with lots of American residents as well as cruise ship stops. The irony of the area is the affluence that is apparent in areas, yet only miles away there are large pockets of extreme poverty.Where will we
9、be staying? Is it safe?We will be staying in a group home in the area called Casa Blanca. It is in a safe area away from the work site. You must pass by a guard shack to get there and the home itself is gated as well. It is clean and has an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean, (Pictures of group home
10、are also on the last page.) It will be a good place for us to gather each morning and evening to debrief, focus our hearts, and spend some time in worship together.What will we be doing while we are there?We will be doing several small projects in addition to the two main projects we will be working
11、 on. We will be building a 16 x 10 home for a poor family and hosting a Vacation Bible School for children in a Oaxacan (wa-ha-kin) Indian migrant camp.Who are the Oaxacan Indians?The people group we will be ministering to are the Oaxacan Indians. They are mostly migrant workers from Oaxaca, Mexico
12、who work in the fields harvesting produce all day and live in camps where there is extreme poverty. There is no electricity and no indoor plumbing among these camps. This people group is very disliked and discriminated against by the locals in Mexico.Do we know who we will be building a house for?Ye
13、s. We are building a home for a single mother of four daughters, all under the age of 12. They are currently living in a shelter of scrap wood with blue tarps for a roof, and dirt floors. (Picture on last page.) The mother currently works all day in the fields with her four daughters where they make
14、 about $12/day.Where is the father/husband?In this particular situation, we dont know what brought her to being a single mother where she is now. However, it is important to note that marriages are pretty stressed in these communities, in large part due to the poverty level. Alcohol/poverty/transito
15、ry working equates to a lot of broken marriages. There is a high level of alcoholism and abuse. Our desire is to meet a very tangible need for these migrant families to assist local organizations in reaching them with the message and transformative power of Jesus Christ.How much will the entire trip
16、 cost?The entire trip will cost in the vicinity of $12,000. Not including transportation, the trip will cost $10,500 for the first 25 people to go. This covers everything else, including food, lodging, building materials, VBS curriculum, and staff from Baja Bound. The actual food and lodging for eac
17、h individual comes out to $190, so each person after 25 will cost another $190. At this point we are estimating somewhere between $1000 and $1500 for traveling expenses to get to and from Mexico. This will become more clear as we get closer to the dates and know how many people are going.How much ar
18、e we expected to pay as individuals to go?We are asking each person going to contribute $100 to secure their spot on the team. We want as many people as possible to be able to come with us, but also want each of us to give something financially to help with the trip.So even if 25 people go, thafs on
19、ly $2500. Where is the rest of the money going to come from?We are asking our church to give the rest of the money necessary to travel to Mexico to do this mission. First of all, we recognize that we are all rich and very blessed. This is a great opportunity to give sacrificially to bless some peopl
20、e far worse off than us.Also, when the team returns and is able to share pictures of a family in a new house and stories of sharing Christ with the children in Mexico, we want those who were unable to travel to be able to know that they were truly a part and made that possible as well.We do not expe
21、ct only those not going to give, but also ask that even those attending the trip would consider giving beyond the $100 required. Take some time as a family or an individual to pray and ask God what He would you have you give toward the trip.When is the money due?We are asking for a $50/person deposi
22、t by Sunday, Sept. 28th. This will give us a good idea of how many people are definitely going to be with us. The trip is not necessarily closed after this date, but we really do need a deposit by then. After the date, spots may become very limited or the price could possibly go up. The balance of y
23、our trip will be due by November 1st.As far as the overall money for the trip, a 10% deposit has already been made. Of the 90% that is left, we must, as a church, have half of that by November 1st and the rest of it by December 15th. Over the next couple of months we will be letting the congregation
24、 know regularly where we are at on the money.Where/how do I pay my deposit?You can pay your deposit anytime. The best way to do so would be at the info table at a Sunday morning gathering or by bringing it by the church during the week. You can also put it in the offering, however be sure that check
25、s are noted with Mexico Deposit in the memo line so that it doesnt go to the general pool for the trip. If it is cash, be sure it is an envelope with that same wording on it.How can I give toward the overall trip?You can give anytime at our Sunday Gathering during the offering. Just be sure that you
26、r check or envelope says Mexico on it so we know that is what its for. Again, if it only says Mexico, it will go to the overall trip, and not to a personal deposit. So please be aware!Is there any other commitment expected if I want to go on the trip?We will have three meetings to serve as a time of
27、 training, preparing, and team building. The tentative dates for those three gatherings are Sunday, October 26th, Sunday November 23rd, and Sunday, December 14th. Dates are subject to change at this point and we will give team members more information in the near future regarding the dates and times
28、.Is there an age limit on who can go?Nope. We are able to accommodate families with children as well as adults of all ages. This is a great opportunity to serve Christ as a family and to instill missionary values into your children side by side through example. We would recommend, however, that chil
29、dren under the age of 5 or 6 not come simply because they may die of boredom. If you are considering bring a very young child, feel free to contact us at the office so we can work out the particulars together.Also, because we know many of the families who are bringing children are bringing multiple
30、family members and this could be cost prohibitive, children under the age of 13 will be $50 to secure their spot.Do I have to be a contractor or an experienced builder in order to go and assist with building a house?Absolutely not! There will be Baja Bound staff on hand to assist in the details of f
31、raming, building, etc. If you can swing a hammer, hand out water, give a flyer and a hug to a child, or pick up a piece of trash you are needed and wanted.Hey, Rachel Marchessault will be going and shell be almost 8 months pregnant.
