2、owrecommendedinTBstrictly,theteachingtaskswouldbedifficultofaccomplishmentinafixedtime.Also,ifeveryclassusesthesameFSTM,alltheclasseswouldbecomemonotonous.ThisiscommonexperienceofmanyEnglishteachersincountyschools.Duringmyearlyteachingpractice,Inoticedthisproblemandfoundthat,ineveryclass,thetimewesp

3、entinteachingnewwordsismuchmorethanthetimeplannedinTB,soIbelievethatitistheword-teachingwhichaffectsourteachingefficiency.Then,howtoteachEnglishwordsincountyschools?ThemethodIhavetakenistheonethatcombinestheoldandthenew,thatstosay,teachallthenewwordsofoneunitinonlyoneclasswiththetraditionalteachingm

4、ethod,thenusetheFSTMonelessonbyonelessonaccordingtoTB.ItisthegoalsofthelessonandtheinterestofthestudentswhichIpaymoreattentiontoduringmyteachingpractice.First,aboutthegoals.ThekeytolearnEnglishwordsfromthebeginningistofosterthestudentsabilitytoreadandspelloutawordaccordingtoitsphoneticsymbolandthepr

5、onouncingrulesofthelettersandletter-groups.So,thefirststepofmyword-teachingistohelpthestudentsbearsomethingasknowledgeofblockinmind.Forexample,“yellowand“knowcanmakethestudentsknowthat“owisoftenpronouncedas/?u/andlaterthestudentscanreadandspell“showand“followeasily.Acertainlinguisthaseversaidthatwit

6、houtgrammar,averylittlethingcanbeconveyedandwithoutwords,nothingcanbeconveyed.Fromthesewords,wecanknowhowimportantthewordsare.Then,whatsthewaytorememberwords?Inmyopinion,oneshouldrememberwordswhenthemeaningofthewordsisknownwellafterthewordsareusedforseveraltimes.Wecanmakethestudentslisten,speak,read

7、,write,andusethewordstomakesentences,substitute,translate,andsoon.And,Ialsotellthestudentssomethingaboutthepartsofspeechandword-building.Forexample,tolearntheword“health,Itellthestudentssomethingabout“healthy.“Healthisanoun,but“healthyisanadjective.Theletter“ymakesanounbecomeanadjective.Weshouldsay“

8、Healthisimportant,“Itsgoodforoneshealthand“keepingoodhealth.Andweshouldalsosaythat“keephealthy,“behealthyand“ahealthyhabit.Aftersuchexplanation,thestudentshavemuchdeeperimpression.OnebasicprinciplethatshouldbeadheredtoinLanguage-Learningisthatpronunciation,spelling,partsofspeechandmeaningshouldbemen

9、tionedtogethereverytime.Thus,theteachingeffectcanbeheightenedforsure.Second,theinterestofthestudents.Word-learning,especiallymanywordstaughtandrememberedtogetherisverydull.So,weshouldspendmoretimeonthevarietyofteachingmethodsandtrytofindtheonewithwhichthestudentswouldlearnthewordsmoreeasilyandbearth
