To have the students in the international department of the school get to know more about the unique features of Halloween, its origin and evolution, the symbols of celebration by people either in the old time or at

2、present. 2. To stimulate the students to speak English by learning, illustrating and participating in the all kinds of interactive activities on the ways of celebrating Halloween. 3. To cultivate the tolerant and optimistic attitude towards the obstacles and depressive time in the life of study and

To encourage the students to make the most use of their imagination and creative ideas by designing the promotion campaign on the spirits of ghosts in China so that more and more foreigners get to know more about our Chinese traditions when they go abroad for further study. To have students collect the reading material on Halloween , watch films on Halloween and try making up scary stories by themselves. 4. To have the studen

17、chers(Possible version )The old Celts, the ancestors of the present-day Irish, Welsh and Scottish people, regarded November1st as Celtic New Year 2000 years ago. And they considered October 31st as the end of autumn and the harvest, the beginning of the bitterly cold winter as well . The old Celts e

18、xpressed their thanks by killing livestock and cooking food for the celebration of harvest to Apollo, the Sun God, who help people grow crops. They also supposed that the Sun God was captured for six months each year by Samhain, “the Lord of the Dead” or “Prince of the Darkness”, who brought the Cel

19、ts the bitterly-cold winter and the long darkness. It was also believed by the Celts that on that day the spirits of anyone who had died would come back to life by looking for the living body to possess, walking and mingling with the living body. Nobody wanted to be possessed, so the old Celts baked

20、 all day the food they just got in, such as pumpkin, turnip, corn and so on, for the entertainments of the spirits of the dead. They carved scary faces out of turnips, beets, or potatoes and put the lit candle inside as lanterns hoping the spirits would leave peacefully. They decorated the windows o

21、f the house with silhouettes (figures) of witches and black cats as well so as not to be injured or possessed by the ghosts. At night they put out all the fire, dressed up in freaky, scary costumes and made a big parade around the village or town in order to disguised themselves as ghosts and fright

22、ened the spirits of evil away. They stayed up by playing games of bobbing for apples, until midnight, when they made the bonfire again and let off the fireworks wishing for the happy life of the year.3. When the Romans took over Britain in the first century, they mixed their customs with those of Celts whom they conquered. This is where is the Halloween tradition of bobbing for apples come from. 31、 their family members who had died go to heaven early and peacefully in stead of wandering about in the air like Jack, a stingy drunkard in the legend.T: Yes, the legend lies in a traditional European custom called “souling”. “On Souls Day” , November 2, given by the Church of Christ in Europe, the

32、poor of the followers of the Christ begged in the remote villages for “Soul Cakes”, made of flour and raisins. Its believed that the bakery donation pastry and the prayer from the Christians can help the dead beloved in the family soon enter the heaven. Now the religious tradition has evolved into t

Telling the story of Jack olanternT: Who would like to tell us the legend of drunkard Jack and the story of Jack OLantern?S: ( Students may have difficulty in describing the story. So any try by the students should be encouraged)Possible Version:Once upon a time

34、, a drunkard named Jack was so stingy that he was not allowed to enter heaven when he died. He also loves playing jokes on devil, Sadan, One day he deceived the devil on the tree and forced the devil into a compact that would spare Jack from going to Hell forever. The devil was so angry about his tr

35、ick and not allows him into hell. The devil gave him a little ember to help him light the way through darkness. Apparently the ember was put into a pumpkin so as to burn longer. Thats why his spirits of the dead is said to wander about around the street and the field under the guide of the lit candl

Negative Side: Playing tricks is unacceptable.Reasons: (1) Some unnecessary misunderstandings and conflicts may occur because of jokes and the tricks on purpose, which may cause troubles and bring some disa

39、sters to people in the daily life and work.(2) The tricks at work may hurt the trust among the cooperators; damage the friendship of the team work and strangle the sense of the confidence of the associated people.(3) The hoaxes or the practical jokes may hurt the feelings of the friends, colleges an

40、d the family members, which have bad effect on the human mentality and the social morality. Conclusion: People may make fun from some kind and light-hearted jokes in the daily life. However, playing practical jokes in the life and at work definitely have negative impact on the relationship of the hu
