(4), Modest criteria (or said: Modesty Maxim) (The Modesty Maxim): speaker as little as possible should praise themselves, many derogatory to own(5), Con

24、sistent criteria (or said: agree with the guidelines) (The Agreement Maxim): the speaker should decrease the differences between the two sides, on a best efforts consistent with others. The contrastive of salutation between English and Chinese.5.1 The compare of salutation between English and ChineseAffected by the impact of the social structure, traditional ethics, blood, religion and the social factors. The salutation system of Chinese is

Child often cant call their parents name, student cant call teachers name directly, subordinates also cant salutation name of their boss in china, or they will be considered is impoliteness. The Chinese not only like to call their family and relative use the nam

44、e including consanguinity connection, but call not family and relative use the same salutation. For example, named those male grandfather who have the same old with our ancestor the female is also called grandmother , named those male uncle who have the same old with our parent, the female is also c

45、alled aunty. named those male brother who have the same old with us, the female is also called sister. It is so infrequent in England. Communicated in their daily life, the Chinese often like using duty to call. It will show they respect those people who is called , at the same time, it also can sho

Up to the State President, the next to head ,all will be used salutation, such as president Wang and director Liu and so on. But English isnt so .The salutation of China can incarnate the tradition custom that respect old m

For example ,called GuoMoRuo as “Mr Guo” and so on, The old havent belittle , only have respect and respected. But it will no

You should express appreciation to each other, when others spend considerable time and effort for you, paid labor or provide help to you, this is the basic courtesy. In the side of appreciation, it is more rifeness than Chinese that the English say “Thanks”. The

51、y often say “Thank you”, although treat their family. However husband and wife almost not say thank you in Chinese culture, or they will have a feeling that deal to the relation turn to alienate, if they should too kind. When people are praised and compliment, they will not say thank you, so as not

52、to make people feel that is not humble Commonly not to thank on a matter of course. On the other side, The English and Chinese also have difference in expression of acknowledge. The Chinese like to say “Here you are trouble”, “Allows you to go to some expense “Allows you to suffer” when people expre

53、ss their appreciation. Yet the English often said “Thank you”, “Thanks a lot” would be sufficient to express gratitude.The difference culture have the same difference in the side of using amende. The frequency and confine is higher than Chinese in using amende of the English. They often say “sorry”

But the Chinese frequency is too low to apologise ,It is relation with “Up under the statue of British Columbia” of Chinese society structure communication.
