If you know your puter will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain? Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how. In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a puter. The first group of people understood that the puter would save the information. The second group understood that the puter would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it. In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a specific puter folder (文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remembered the folder location (位置) better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called "transactive memory (交互记忆)" According to Sparrow, we are not being people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, puter users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesnt mean we are being either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.14.The passage begins with two questions to _.A. explain how to store information B. show the authors altitudeC. describe how to use the Internet D. introduce the main topic 15.What can we learn about the first experiment?A. The Sparrows team typed the information into a puter.B. The first group did not try to remember the informationC. The two groups remembered the information equally well.D. The second group did not understand the information.16.In transactive memory, people _.A. keep the information in mind B. remember how to find the information C. organize information like a puter D. change the quantity of information17.What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrows research?A. We need a better way to access information. B. We are being more intelligent.C. We have poorer memories than before. D. We are using memory differently CLondons newest skyscraper (摩天大楼) is called the Shard and it cost about 430 million pounds to build. At a height of almost 310 metres, it is the tallest building in Europe. The Shard has pletely changed the appearance of London. However, not everyone thinks that it is a change for the better. The Shard was designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano. When he began designing the Shard forLondon, Piano wanted a very tall building that looked like a spire (尖顶). He wanted the glass surfaces to reflect the sky and the city. The sides of the building arent regular. So the building has an unusual shape. It looks like a very thin, sharp piece of broken glass. And that is how the building got the name: the Shard. Piano says that the spire shape of the Shard is part of a great London tradition. The shape reminds him of the spires of the churches of London or the tall masts (桅杆) of the ships that were once on the river Thames. The Shard has 87 floors. At the top, there is an observatory. At the moment the building is empty, but eventually there will be a five-star hotel. There will also be top quality restaurants, apartments and offices. Before building work began, a lot of people didnt want the Shard though the plans were approved. Now they are still unhappy about the Shard. Some critics say that such a tall skyscraper might be good in a city like New York, but not in London. They say that the best thing about the Shard is its spire shape. But that is the only thing. There is no decoration, only flat surfaces. The Egyptians did that 4,500 years ago. They also think the Shard is too big for London. It destroys the beauty of the city.Other critics dont like what the Shard seems to represent. They say that the Shard shows how London is being more unequal. Only very rich people can afford to buy the expensive private apartments and stay in the hotel. But the people who live near the Shard are among the poorest in London. So the Shard seems a symbol of the division(分开,分隔) in society between the very rich and the poor. The Shard now dominates the London skyline. It is not certain, however, that ordinary London citizens will ever accept it as a valuable addition to the city.18.Londons newest skyscraper is called the Shard because of _.A. its cost B. its shape C. its size D. its height19.When he designed the Shard, Piano wanted it to _.A. change Londons skyline B. attract potential visitors C. imitate the Egyptian style D. inherit(继承) Londons tradition20.The critics who refer to social division think the Shard _.A.is intended for wealthy people B.is only preferred by the richC.is far away from the poor area D.is popular only with Londoners 第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,其中有两项为多余选项。In general , people talk about two groups of colors : warm colors and cool colors .21: people who prefer warm colors and people who prefer cool colors.22Where there are warm colors and a lot of light , people usually want to be active .People think that red , for example , is exciting.Sociable people , those who like to be with others , like red .The cool colors are green , blue and violet .These colors , unlike warm colors are relaxing .Where there are cool colors , people are usually quiet .23Red may be exciting , but one researcher says that time seems to pass more slowly in a room with warm colors than in a room with cool colors .He suggests that a warm color , such as red or orange is a good color for a living room or restaurant .People who are relaxing or eating do not want time to pass quickly.24Researchers do not know why people think some colors are warm and other colors are cool .However , almost everyone agrees that red , orange , and yellow are warm and that green , blue , and violet are cool .25Because in the north the sun is higher during summer , the hot summer sunlight appears yellow .A. Some people think of so. They believe that the Internet helps students make many friends. Chatted online, students can express their feelings and opinions more freely, and even get some help of their foreign languages. But others think quite differently. They insist making friends online is waste of time, that should otherwise be spent on study. Besides, it is often reported that quite a little students get cheated online. It is my opinion what we students should place our study, health and safety first. As for friendship, we can readily find them in our classmates and other people around us. If someone cannot even be friend with the people around him, how can he possible expect a friend online?第三节 书面表达(共25分)请你根据以下提示,并结合自己生活中的一个事例,用英语写一篇短文。Never be afraid of making mistakes.
