Questions are who signs up, why do they sign up, what is effective?Laura is working also with e-Learning for Educators which is
2、studying the impact of online professional development on student learning through a series of studies. She previously worked on evaluation for the Louisiana Algebra 1 Online Program. Ultimately we cant sustain a program without evidence that the program is effective.Why participants attended this t

How do we ensure impact on classroom and how do we know it has impact Interested in evaluation process for several programs, student courses, pd coursesAll facilitators are now state employees 一 how do we keep up with evaluation of personnel that
4、we do not directly control or have oversight for? How do we guarantee consistency? Trying to do a sales job for OPD but need to know more about determining classroom impact. New pilot for Tenn Virtual SchoolNortheast Florida Educational Consortium provides OPD. How do wc evaluate our program? Impact
5、 on student learning, monitoring facilitators, impact on classroom. Connection to standards, how can we evaluate how courses meet standards Beginning development of Tenn Virtual School 一 Title IID requires data to back up requests for funding(Key Ideas: Data, Impact on student learning, determining
6、effectiveness of teachers and programs) Important to be sure that the instruments you use are designed to help you tease out what the impact is. How do we help teachers continue to be effective once they are trained - how do we keep it going (mentoring, shadowing) End of course surveys, course stati
7、stics. Contractual issues and how we can tell teachers they wont be invited back - union issuesRecruiting facilitators 一 need to establish criteria facilitators. Teachers were more eager to facilitate than administrators who saw it as an additional task added to their regular job while teachers can
8、be paid. In Marion County Florida - the professional development department who have to train the online facilitators. Cant facilitate unless that dept trains themwalk-about checklist? - Do wc have something similar for online facilitators? Do wc have criteria for what wc want to sec in online facil
9、itators? Need to know CAN they + DO they- SC uses an apprenticeship model where they do the training and teach two courses before they are hired to teach (SC Online Facilitators Academy) Respect teachers who say this is not for them 一 there will be a cost associated? Alabama initiatives - Reading/ma
10、th/science - AL targeted people rather than recruiting them. Looked for people with content and technology background. Had to have had the training in the Al initiatives and have gone through training. No pay until course is delivered successfully. Clear Expectations are essential for facilitators t
11、o be effectiveOnline database to capture all the contacts teachers are making with students/participants to see what impact that will have. WV virtual school is using teacher portfolios and accompanying student portfolios 一 will pull together to see impact. Teachers arc struggling with how to evalua
12、te the portfolios and how to figure out why they get what they get from students. Now let them do those electronically or on paper. What kinds of student outcomes do you expect to see? Struggle with how to determine outcomes since slate test doesnt tell us what we need to know. Must target the asses
13、sment toward what you need to know. How many data sets would be sufficient to demonstrate the outcomes? Importance of sustaining professional development over time - SC professional development office doesirt feel that shorter courses work. They look for yearlong programs to make the biggest impact. SC Ed Tech department is trying to convince them to add some of the shorter online courses to the existing year long plans. Wants to look for actual application in the classroom and follow up.
