28、ter them. Then let the Ss do Activities 2 3 on page 52 and Activity 8 on page 54. Task 2 Warming upT: Now please look at the two pictures on page 52. In the first picture, what can you see?S: I can see a very big ship and there are lots of soldiers on the deck.T: Can you guess what they are doing?S:

29、 Perhaps they are going to sail to another country to seize it. A war will begin.T: I want you to show me the position on the map where the ship is.S: English Channel, I think.T: You are right. Step III While-readingDeal with the three passages and let the Ss get to know about the D-Day landings.T:

30、In fact, the first picture shows us a scene before the D-Day landings on the Normandy coast of German-occupied France. How much do you know about the D-Day landings?S: In the Second World War, Germany occupied many countries. In these countries France is included. The United States, Britain and Cana

31、da united to invade France against Nazi domination. We call the event that the soldiers of these countries landed on the beaches of Normandy in France the D-Day landings. T: You are right. Do you want to know more about the D-Day landings?Ss: Yes. We are very interested in the world history.T: OK. N

32、ow please read the three passages on pages 52 53 as quickly as you can to get the main ideas of them. During the Second World War(1939-1945), Germany occupied many countries, including France. On the 6th June 1944, troops from the United States, Britain and Canada landed on

53、 the beaches of Normandy in France, known as the D-Day landings, to fight against Germany. The Operation Overland was the most important battle of the war in Europe. The operation was extremely dangerous and many soldiers were killed. But eventually, the D-Day landings was successful and this was th

54、e beginning of the end of the Second World War. S: Early on the morning of 6 June 1944, the soldiers of Able Company crossed the English Channel. But during the process, they were fired by the Germans. Half an hour after the first attack, two thirds of the company had died, being killed by Germans o

55、r drowned in the water. The survivors left were exhausted and shocked. Six of them tried to climb up the cliff to get off the beach. But unfortunately, four were too exhausted to reach the top, so only two succeeded and then joined a group from another company and fought with them against Germans.S:

58、itary attack. The Blitz specially refers to the bombing of British cities by German aircraft in 1940 and 1941.T: Good. In these attacks, many people were killed by bombs. To avoid being bombed, air raid shelters were set up. Staying in air raid shelters could decrease the amount of the deaths. Task
