What can they order?Life and Culture在美国购物十大奇趣 在美国生活的人们习惯于每周购买食品一次，存放于冰箱内慢慢享用。笔者在美生活一段时间，感觉购物新奇趣事很多，举几个例子，也许对即将赴美的人们有所裨益。一、价格特点。尾数常是9，例如0.19、0.99、4.99美元，几百美元以上可能让利1元，例如599美元。明码标价，不讨价还价。除食品外，在密执安州其他商品另交6%的消费税。如买彩电300美元，加6

28、%消费税，实付318美元。二、瓶装啤酒比罐装啤酒价高，此点与中国恰恰相反。在美国，无论瓶装还是罐装啤酒都是355毫升，以中等价格算，一瓶啤酒0.75美元，一罐啤酒0.50美元，贵0.25美元。另外，星期日12：00之前不卖酒。我曾有两次自选啤酒或葡萄酒，但在结帐时被扣。因为周日是礼拜日，据说上午卖酒是对上帝不恭。三、自取塑料袋、自行包装、自己称重。美国工人工资高，为降低成本，老板尽量少雇人。在果菜超市，少部分水果、蔬菜已袋装或捆好，而大部分由顾客自行包装。例如豆角、土豆、香蕉、李子等等，买多少包多少。相隔不远处有一捆塑料袋装于转轮上，塑料袋每隔50厘米有断缝，撕断取下即可使用。不远处吊着秤，重

29、量单位是磅，称好了便在出口处算帐。四、菜、蛋洗得较干净，买回家后可以少洗或不洗。供生吃的黄瓜采摘后即用细长塑料袋包扎好，避免在运输和零售过程中受到污染。鸡蛋较干净，无异味，放在长条形盒内，常见的是每盒12个，易取易放。鸡蛋按大小分别装盒，鸡蛋越大价格越高。常见的标价是：0.73、0.89、1.09美元一盒。最贵的菜是韭菜，3美元一磅(相当于9两)，最便宜的是包心菜，0.17美元一磅。五、牛奶为桶装式。每桶3785毫升(1加仑)。因为每周购物一次，用大容量包装易取又降低成本。美国店内不出售肥皂(有香皂)，中国店出售半透明的洗衣皂，但不是国内常见的洗衣皂。美国人洗衣洗手都是用洗涤剂，用桶装或小瓶装

30、。六、除散装蔬菜外，其他商品都贴有商标。每个水果上也都贴有商标，葡萄贴在塑料袋上。这是为了创名牌，名牌水果价高而且好销。七、公开售枪。在百货超市里，有卖步枪、子弹的柜台。每支步枪明码标价如下：29.94、49.99、119.99美元。子弹摆在旁边，未见标价。商品广告中有售枪广告。美国民间枪支泛滥，校园及社会上凶杀案不断传来。八、退瓶机。买啤酒、矿泉水时留下押金，日后可退瓶。这一步骤在退瓶机上进行。按电钮后-孔内塑料片旋转，将要退的罐、瓶抻入，边入内降落边计数、计价，再按另一按钮，弹出一个纸条，上面打印了数量和钱数，可去冲销购物款，也可取款。九、试行自行结帐。由一位工作人员监督4个结帐出口，购物者自行消磁、计算、刷卡付款、电子签字，然后推货出门。没有付款者出门，门铃会报警。只要门铃不响，从进到出，没有任何人管你。此项实验如成功，结帐员工可减少三分之二。十、与国内商场不同的是，这里工作人员30岁以上的多，且有老翁老妇当服务员，年轻漂亮的女性却少见。原来当服务员工资较低，不少老板不给员工买健康保险、社会保险，因此，对年轻女性吸引力不大。
