He practiced medicine until a year and a half after the release of The Kite Runner .The Kite Runner ,His first novel,was an international bestseller, published in thirty-eight countries. In 2006 he

4、was named a goodwill envoy to UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency. He lives in northern California. His second, A Thousand Splendid Suns, was released on May 22, 2007. In 2008, the book was the bestselling novel in the UK (as of April 11, 2008), with more than 700,000 copies sold.Looking at The

5、 Kite Runner as a story about culture, however, misses what the book is really about. This is a novel about humanity. This is a story about friendship, loyalty, cruelty, longing for acceptance, redemption and survival. The core story could be set in any culture because it deals with issues that are

6、universal. .The Kite Runner follows the story of Amir, the privileged son of a wealthy businessman in Kabul, and Hassan, the son of Amirs fathers servant. As children in the relatively stable Afghanistan of the early 1970s, the boys are inseparable. They spend idyllic days running kites and telling

7、stories of mystical places and powerful warriors until an unspeakable event changes the nature of their relationship forever, and eventually cements their bond in ways neither boy could have ever predicted. Even after Amir and his father flee to America, Amir remains haunted by his cowardly actions

8、and disloyalty. In part, it is these demons and the sometimes impossible quest for forgiveness that bring him back to his war-torn native land after it comes under Taliban rule.The ThemeThe Kite Runner is a story with all the grand themes of literature and life. It is a vivid and engaging story that

9、 reminds us how long Khaled Hosseinis people have been struggling to triumph over the forces of violence. It is about friendship and betrayal and the arbitrary price of loyalty. I really enjoyed Hosseinis style of writing and the way he was able to provide so much detail yet leave the reader able to comprehend what he is saying.Initially, I did not sympathize with Amirs regret after the cowardice he displayed towards Hassan, but my mind gradually chang

15、ed as the plot unfolded. I could only think how wrong it was to betray someone like he did, especially after all Hassan had done for him. After all, it was Hassan and his slingshot that prevented Amir from getting beat up by Assef. However, as I thought of the other aspects of Amirs life, such as th

16、e acceptance he so desperately wanted from his father and the typical Afghan treatment of the Hazaras, I began to see the difficulties he was constantly facing. I was also reminded that Amir was only twelve at the time of the incident, and that no child that young should be subject to experiences su

17、ch as the ones he had to tolerate.My understanding of the bookAfter I read the book , I think about humanity. Everyone has his kite and everyone is a kite runner at the same time. We must and have to be brave to take the responsibilities that belong to us and admit the errors we made.We should not betrayal our heart. One should never be too selfish.Just like Hassan ,we can learn to be loyalty. And we ought to cherish friendship . Just as lyrics which describes friendship: If I lost my way ,youd carry me home , take me all the way to heaven never leave me alone.Friendship never ends.
