Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner got the name The Gilded Age from Shakespeares King John (1595): To gild refined gold, to paint t

2、he lily. is wasteful and ridiculous excess. The Gilded Age Through the realistic method, the novel satirizes darkness and political corruption at that time in America. Afterwards, people use the gilded age to describe the American history from the end of the Civil War to the end of the 19th century.

It was also the transition period from liberal capitalism to monopoly capitalism. Because of these two important transformation, American politics, economy, social

7、ded Age The Gilded Age was the darkest and the most corrupt period in the history of America. corrupt administration Many government officials took advantage of their authority to earn ill-gotten gains. corrupt judiciary Offering or accepting bribes was a common at that time. corrupt legislation Man

8、y ridiculous legislation was only for some peoples benefit, especially the capitalist class and government officials.Immigration America is a country which consists of immigration in some degree. There was no other country which attracted such amount of people from all over the world. Most of the im

9、migration came from Europe. These people provided abundant labour and advanced technology for the industry and the development of the west. In addition, they rich the spiritual life of American and promoted the development of American culture.Labour Movement In the late 1800s, labour movement rose t

10、o an unprecedented height. The cruel exploitation of the capitalists made the position and living standard of the workers become lower, which caused labour movement. In 1886, American workers struck for realizing working eight hours a day. It was meaningful all over the world. After the establishmen

11、t of the monopolistic capitalism, the labour movement in the 19th century came to its high tide. Foreign Policy In order to adapt to the export of commodities and the need of fighting for the sphere of influence, America began to adopt the policy of expanding abroad. As a result, it paid more emphas
