20、e to be here.W ：Perhaps you can start by telling us where the idea for the book came from.M ： Well, it was first suggested in the early 1930s. Sir Hugh Beaver, themanagingdirectorofGuinness was out shooting birds with some friends.A bird flew away so quickly that no one wasable to shoot it. Sir Hugh

21、 wonderedwhether this bird was the fastest bird in Europe. And if itwasnt thefastest, he wondered what was.W ：So I suppose he went to the nearest library to look for the informationand he couldnt findit?M ： Yes. Thats exactly what happened. He though that like himself,people would be interested in finding facts about records to satisfy theircuriosity.W ：So the idea for a book of records was born. And when did the first bookcome out?M ： A few years later in 1955. So to answer your first question, the tallestperson in the worldis 231.7 cm tall and the oldest person is Jeanne L.Calment who was born in February, 1875.W ：There are also some rather strange records, arent there Thomas?
