18、 given their lives.And as a grateful nation, humbled by their service, we can never honor these American heroes or their families enough.Just as we have a solemn responsibility to train and equip our troops before we send them into harms way, we have a solemn responsibility to provide our veterans a

19、nd wounded warriors with the care and benefits theyve earned when they come home.That is our sacred trust with all who serve and it doesnt end when their tour of duty does.To keep that trust, were building a 21st century VA, increasing its budget, and ensuring the steady stream of funding it needs t

20、o support medical care for our veterans.To help our veterans and their families pursue a college education, were funding and implementing the post-9/11 GI Bill.To deliver better care in more places, were expanding and increasing VA health care, building new wounded warrior facilities, and adapting c

21、are to better meet the needs of female veterans.To stand with those who sacrifice, weve dedicated new support for wounded warriors and the caregivers who put their lives on hold for a loved ones long recovery.And to do right by our vets, were working to prevent and end veteran homelene because in th

22、e United States of America, no one who served in our uniform should sleep on our streets.We also know that for many of todays troops and their families, the war doesnt end when they come home.Too many suffer from the signature injuries of todays wars: Post-Traumatic Stre Disorder and Traumatic Brain

23、 Injury.And too few receive the screening and treatment they need.Now, in past wars, this wasnt something America always talked about.And as a result, our troops and their families often felt stigmatized or embarraed when it came to seeking help.Today, weve made it clear up and down the chain of com

24、mand that folks should seek help if they need it.In fact, weve expanded mental health counseling and services for our vets.But for years, many veterans with PTSD who have tried to seek benefits veterans of todays wars and earlier wars have often found themselves stymied.Theyve been required to produ

25、ce evidence proving that a specific event caused their PTSD.And that practice has kept the vast majority of those with PTSD who served in non-combat roles, but who still waged war, from getting the care they need.Well, I dont think our troops on the battlefield should have to take notes to keep for

26、a claims application.And Ive met enough veterans to know that you dont have to engage in a firefight to endure the trauma of war.So were changing the way things are done.On Monday, the Department of Veterans Affairs, led by Secretary Ric Sheki, will begin making it easier for a veteran with PTSD to

27、get the benefits he or she needs.This is a long-overdue step that will help veterans not just of the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars, but generations of their brave predeceors who proudly served and sacrificed in all our wars.Its a step that proves America will always be here for our veterans, just as the

30、ing we need to do is get more Americans back to work.And over the past three years, weve made steady progre.We just learned that our economy added 212,000 private sector jobs in December.After losing more than 8 million jobs in the receion, weve added more than 3 million private sector jobs over the

31、 past 22 months.And were starting with manufacturing on the rise and the American auto industry on the mend.Were heading in the rightdirection.And were not going to let up.On Wednesday the White House will host a forum called Insourcing American Jobs. Well hear from busine leaders who are bringing j

32、obs back home and see how we can help other businees follow their lead.Because this is a make or break moment for the middle cla and all those working to get there.Weve got to keep at it.Weve got to keep creating jobs.And weve got to keep rebuilding our economy so that everyone gets a fair shot, eve

33、ryone does their fair shareand everyone plays by the same rules.We cant go back to the days when the financial system was stacking the deck agat ordinary Americans.To me, thats not an option.Not after all weve been through.Thats why I appointed Richard Cordray as our nations new consumer watchdog th

34、is week.Richards job is simple: to look out for you.Every day, his sole miion is to protect consumers from potential abuses by the financial industry and to make sure that youve got all the transparent information you need to make the important financial decisions in your lives.I nominated Richard f

35、or this job last summer.And yet, Republicans in the Senate kept blocking his confirmation not because they objected to him, but because they wanted to weaken his agency.That made no sense.Every day we waited was a day you and consumers all acro the country were at greater financial risk.So this year
