2、s of culture.In 2001,UNESCO made a survey among States and NGOs to try to agree on a definition,and the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage was drafted in 2003 for its protection and promotion.Definition Intangible culture is the counterpart of culture which is tangible o

3、r touchable,whereas intangible culture includes song,music,drama,skills,crafts,and the other parts of culture that can be recorded but cannot be touched and interacted with,without a vehicle for the culture.These cultural vehicles are called Human Treasures by the UN.Significance According to the 20

4、03 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage,the intangible cultural heritage(ICH)or living heritage is the mainspring of humanitys cultural diversity and its maintenance a guarantee for continuing creativity.Significance&some detailsSignificance&some details Intangible Cul

5、tural Heritage means the practices,representations,expressions,knowledge,skills as well as the instruments,objects,artifacts and cultural spaces associated therewith that communities,groups and,in some cases,individuals recognize as part of their cultural heritage.This intangible cultural heritage,t

6、ransmitted from generation to generation,is constantly recreated by communities and groups in response to their environment,their interaction with nature and their history,and provides them with a sense of identity and continuity,thus promoting respect for cultural diversity and human creativity.Sig

7、nificance&some details For the purposes of this Convention,consideration will be given solely to such intangible cultural heritage as is compatible with existing international human rights instruments,as well as with the requirements of mutual respect among communities,groups and individuals,and of

10、,with its 1950 Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties,was the first to introduce legislation to preserve and promote intangible as well as tangible culture Other countries,including South Korea(Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Korea),the United States,Thailand,France,Romania,and Po

12、al Heritage.This went into effect on April 20,2006.The Convention recommends that countries and scholars develop inventories of ICH in their territory,as well as work with the groups who maintain these ICH to ensure their continued existences;it also provides for funds to be voluntarily collected am

13、ong UNESCO members and then disbursed to support the maintenance of recognized ICH.UNESCO has also created other intangible culture programs,such as a list called Proclamation of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.An Illustration:My hometowns Intangible Cultural Heritage -F

14、lower Drum Lantern Flower Drum LanternOverview Flower Drum Lantern,dubbed as the ballet of the east by Premier Zhou Enlai,is a folk art combining with singing and dancing,which started in Song Dynasty(960-1279)and prevailed at the end of Qing Dynasty(1644-1911)and the beginning of the Republic of Ch

15、ina(1912-1949).The most distinguished one is in Huaiyuan on the two banks of the Huaihe River,Anhui Province.The ancient laborers would dance and sang during the nonagricultural season,certainly not for art but for relaxation or venting their emotions.These impromptu dancing and singing had been tur

16、ned into Flower Drum Lantern in Song Dynasty,with dances,lantern songs and gongs and drums as the main elements.Artistic style Since it originated from the Huaihe River,where is situated in the south of the Yellow River and north of the Changjiang River,the flower drum lantern gathered the northern

17、and southern culture together,making the performance not only bold and candid but also gentle and lovely.Thus,combining the agricultural society civilization,collect aesthetics and understanding to the livingManifestationsGenerally,the cast for the Flower Drum Lantern involves a band,performers and

18、lightman.As an important part in the performance,Gongs and drums will be beat according to the changes of scenes and stage lights.Featured passionate rhythm and strong artistic attraction,gongs and drums can beat solely sometimes,while they should be combined with dances and performances when the st

19、age lights change,served as accompaniment to enriching the emotion.Dance is another important part in the Flower Drum Lantern,including the emotional dance by the whole group and performances mixing with dance,martial arts and acrobatics as well as impromptu dance drama by two or three people,highli

20、ghting the whole performance.ManifestationsThere are two expressive ways in the dance.One is the male dancers leading the female dancers to the stage and dancing with umbrella together,in the end a group dancing will be presented as the dance formation changes;the other is two or three dancers perfo

21、rming a simple dance drama with a plot of snatching handkerchief and wooden stool.Flower Drum Lantern is a dance needed various skills,which requires the female dancers perform skillful poses at the male dancers shoulders,legs even hands,showing the masculine power of the male dancers as well as the

22、 soft and sprightly figures of the female dancers.Songs from the Flower-drum Lantern are called Flower-drum Songs and come from the folk tunes of the banks of the Huaihe River.Music is the soul of Flower Drum Lantern,especially the rhythm of gongs and drums and the flower-drum songs,all highly enric

23、hed with artistic values.DevelopmentThe Flower-drum Lantern was mainly prevalent in more than 20 counties and cities in northern Anhui Province,including Fengtai,Huaiyuan,Huainan and Bengbu.It took shape in the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty and gradually became popular in the Republic of China.I

24、n the autumn of 1952,Feng Guopei,the head of Dongxiang village of Bengbu City,was invited to the Central Academy of Drama to teach the Flower-drum Lantern dance.In 1953,the Anhui team of the Flower-drum Lantern participated in Chinas first Music and Dance Joint Performance,causing a big stir across

25、China.At present,the Flower-drum Lantern has developed into a stage art suitable for different subjects and able to portray various kinds of human figures.Its music and dance is widely assimilated into dramas and other arts;it has even spread to some Asian and European countries.Protective efforts A

26、t a national conference on protecting Chinas traditional culture held in April 2004,the unique Flower-drum Lantern dance of Anhui Province,along with 28 other items,was included in the second phase of the National Folk Culture Protection Project.After the conference,the Ministry of Culture and Minis

27、try of Finance in China issued the following notice:It is an important obligation of governments at different levels to protect the folk cultural heritage,requiring local financial departments to include the clause in their financial budget.The notice also called on local authorities to set up relat

28、ed institutions to take charge of the protective measures.PS:The Flower Drum Lantern&Bengbu cityAs the core area of Flower Drum Lantern,Bengbu City has always attached great importance to the protection and development of the Huagudeng,and set up a professional committee to protect it.In 2004,Bengbu

29、 was certain for Huagudengs original ecological protection base,the Huagudeng was included in the national Chinese folk culture protection project,which is the only one be included of Han nationality.In 2006,declared by Bengbu City,Huagudeng become the first batch of national intangible cultural heritageOn June 30,2012,the first theme park as the core to Flower Drum Lantern art-Bengbu Huagudeng Carnival officially opened.By the way,sincerely welcome everyone to come the Huaiyuan,Bengbu.Tour Huagudeng Carnival,enjoy the original ecological Huagudeng and eat authentic pomegranate.Thank you!
