4、f greeting among the English and British people and is customary when you are introduced to somebody new.Greetings IIvThe Kiss It is only when you meet friends,whom you havent seen for a long time,that you would kiss the cheek of the opposite sex.In Britain one kiss is generally enough.vFormal greet

20、-cough.(Bears used to roam Britain but now they are not seen on our shores)Animal Superstitionsv In some parts of the UK meeting two or three Ravens together is considered really bad.One very English superstition concerns the tame Ravens at the Tower of London.It is believed if they leave then the c

21、rown of England will be lost.v It is said to be badluck if you see bats flying and hear their cries.In the middle ages it was believed that witches were closely associated with bats.v If a Sparrow enters a house it is an omen of death to one who lives there.In some areas it is believed that to avoid

22、 ill luck any Sparrow caught must be immediately killed otherwise the person who caught it will die.vIt is thought very unlucky to have the feathers of a Peacock within the home or handle anything made with them.This is possibly because of the eye shape present upon these feathers i.e.the Evil-Eye a

23、ssociated with wickedness.vWedding SuperstitionslBride and groom must not meet on the day of the wedding except at the alter.lThe bride should never wear her complete wedding clothes before the day.lFor good luck the bride should wear“something borrowed,something blue,something old and something new”.lThe husband should carry his new wife over the threshold of their home.
