55、LF Tan DeltaTan Delta basics All MV and HV power cables have a high voltage life expectancy;During the whole service life they are subjected to thermal,electrical,mechanical and environmental stresses;These stresses will change the morphological properties of the insulation,so will age/degrade the i

59、ation because ofthermal and chemical processes.This moisture content will decrease the insulationresistance,resulting in an increase in Tan Delta.It is clear that with PILC cables external water ingress will also influence the Tan Delta!For XLPE cables thermal ageing is hardly measurable with the Ta

60、n Delta method,the IRC-method however is capable of detecting that type of ageing.The focus of Tan Delta measurements on XLPE cables is detecting the presence of water trees.Water trees are the most important ageing phenomenon for polymer cables and could lead into early cable faults!(c)SebaKMT 2009
