It brings us a tough hero, William Wallace, leaderof the Scottish resista nee forces aga inst En gla nd s rule. Although heis

2、dead at last, his spirit had led his people to fight and get freedom.This meaningful work has touched so manyhearts by its significaneethemeand content.The theme of this work can mainly be seen over the growing image of William Wallace. First we see his childhood. His father was killed by the Englis

3、h intruder,which maydefinitely leave a scar on his heart. Withthis great hatred, when he saw his wife killed by the enemies, everything stuck deep dow n his heart was released all of a sudde n with magn ifice nt power. So in the fighti ng sce ne, we see a warrior dared his life wavi ng the sword. It

4、 is a mon wonder where his courage is from. Let s say, ifit is an ordinary person, who lost his parents since he s very young,he may not have the conv icti on to grow up as a hero. However, heroes are as heroes are.Wallace s revolution was significant, seen from many aspects, with great obstacles fr

5、om his coun tryme n, as well as en emies. Many Scottish nobles lent him only grudging support as most of them were more concerned with wealth and titlesthan the freedom of the country. In fact,the Scottish leaders are in favor of revolt-or no t-depe nding on En glish bribes. Wallace, by paris on, is

6、 a man of honor, in corruptible and righteous. He was kni ghted and proclaimed guardia n and high protectorof Scotland , but as much as he railed against the Scottish nobles, submitted to Edward I, Ki ng of En gla nd, he was ast oni shed and in shock to discover the treachery of the lead ing Scot co

7、nten der for thethrone Robert, the Earl of Bruce to whomhe confided,The people wouldfollow you, if you would only lead them. Sophie Marceau is exquisiteas the distressed princess Isabella of France who ends up fallingin lovewith Wallace, warni ng him out of several traps. Catheri ne McCormack is a s

8、tunning beauty who ignites Wallace s revolution.Patrick McGooharischilli ng, brutal, and vicious as the ruthless Edward I, known by the nickn ame Long sha nks. This king rema ins simply the embodime nt of evil. While Angus McFadyen movesas a nobleman torn between his conscienee and political aspirat

9、io n, and Brendan Glees on brings stre ngth and humor to his role as the robust Hamish, David O Hara is very effective as the crazy Irishman who provides much of the film s ic relief from even the most ten sed mome nts. Mel Gibs on has reas on to be proud of this work. It is a motio n picture that d

10、ares to be excessive Gibs on prese nts passi on ately the most spaciously impressive battles(yet staged for films ) evenexcessively, and it is his passion and excess that makethe motion picture great. The horror and futility of massed han d-to-ha nd bats are excit ing rather repulsive. It is epic fi

11、lm-making at its glorious best. This movie focuses on the huma n side of Wallace, a character that is so imme nse, so in tellige nt, and so passi on ate, explori ng the defi niti ons of honor and no bility, pushi ng us to follow the hero into his struggle aga inst injustice and oppressi on. And this

12、 is the power of a hero.Also, this movie is a red-blooded battle epic. Not muchis known about Wallace, known as Braveheart, except that according to an old epic poem, he unified the clans of Scotland and won famous battles against the En glish before being captured, tortured and executed as a traito

13、r.Wallace cried, as his body was stretched on the rack. That isnt exactly based on fact (the con cept of pers onal freedom was a con cept not much celebrated in 1300), but it does n t stop Gibs on from makingit his dying cry. It fits in with the whole glorious sweep of Braveheart, which is an action

14、 epic with the spirit of the Hollywood swordplay classics and the grungy ferocity of“The Road Warrior ”。What people are goingto rememberfrom the film are the battle scenes, which are frequent,bloody and viole nt. Just from a tech ni cal point of view, Braveheart does a brilliant job of massing menan

15、d horses for large-scale warfare on film. Gibs on deploys what look like thousa nds of men on horseback, as well as foot soldiers, archers and dirty tricks specialists, and yet his battle sequences don t turn into confusing crowd scenes: We understand the strategy, and we enjoy the tactics eve n whi

16、le we doubt some of them.Gibs on is not filmi ng history here, but myth. William Wallace may have bee n a real pers on,but Braveheart owes more to Prince Valia nt,RobRoy and MadMax. Oncewe understand that this is not a solemn historical recon struct ion(and that happe ns pretty fast ), we accept dia

17、logue thatmight otherwise have an uncannily modern tone, as when Braveheart issues his victory ultimatum to the English. In the film, Wallace s chiefantagonist is King Edward I, played by Patrick McGoohanwith sly cunning; he is constantly giving his real political interpretation of events, and that

18、s all the more amusing since he s usually guessing in a wrong way.Edward s son, the Prince of Wales, is a very weak role whomarries a French woman only for political reasons and he s a gay himself. Evenhis father doesn t like him. “ I mayhave to conceive the child myself! ” the king says, and in dee

19、d, un der the medieval con cept, or “ firstni ght, ”no bles were allowed a first cha nee to sleep with the wives of Scottish men. The Princess, played by the French actress Sophie Marceau, does not much admire her husba nd, who spe nds most of his time hanging about moon-eyed with his best friend(un

20、til the king, in a fit of impatienee,hurls the friend out the castle window)。Edward, smarting from defeats, dispatches the Princess to offer his terms to Braveheart, but soon she s spilling all the state secrets, “ because of the way you look at me. ” The Princess is the second love in Wallace s lif

21、e; the first, his childhood sweetheart Murron (Catherine McCormack, marries him in secret. The two spe nd their weddi ng ni ght outdoors, and the backlit shot as they embrace gains something, I think, from the frost on their breaths.These characters e from harde ned stock. When Wallace has areunion

22、with his childhood pal Hamish, they hurl rocks at each other for entertainment;later, whena Scotsman has his woundcauterized all he saysis, “That ll wake you up in the morning, boy!” It is sometimes seenas an egotistical gesture whe n actors direct themselves, especially in heroic epics costi ng $53

23、 millio n. The truth is, give n this material, I do not know that anyone could have directed it better. Gibs on marshals his armies of extras, his stunt men and his special effects, and creates a fictio nal world that is en terta ining, and thrilli ng.And as to Braveheart, Gibs on plays his role wit

24、h flamboya nee,and cuts it with sly humor. He is an amaz ing battlefield strategist, inven ti ng new strategies and weap ons, outsmart ing the En glish at every turn, leadi ng his men into battle with his face pain ted blue, like a football fan. There is a sce ne where he is so pumped up with the sc

25、e nt of battle that his no strils flare; not many actors could get away with that, but Gibs on can.In the mea nwhile, this movie is a very touch ing love story.William lost beloved woman,it meanslosing the only love of life,suddenlyof heart desperate for power, reve nge for the loss of love, so he k

26、illed the Scottish soldiers and chiefta in s. Iun dersta nd it as a fight for thelove of battle.This is actually a blasti ng fuse, the real highlight of theScottish people with the pursuit of freedom in William s leadership,thestruggle aga inst the King of En gla nd. So we can say that the light of

27、freedom is the most eye-catching thing. However, humannature once again deceived William, whe n he was betrayed n oble chiefta ins sent after the trial un its in En gla nd, whe n William lear ned that his dream of freedom can be pleted, and only mind eagerly look ing forward to it! At the time, as l

28、ong as he can head dow n to En gla nd, he con fessed to treas on and asked for mercy, he can get the most enjoyment of relief, replacing many of the lingering death of torture. But William the final calls out from the throat or the “free ” word. This is his deep, strong cry, he would rather lose his

29、 body could not betray his heart! En gla nd at this time the public was movedby whom,and they seemto see a real hero! William has a brave heart!William s life was strangled and decapitated! His brave heart wins everything, including the heart of Murron, the most elegant heart of Princess of England(played by Sophie Marceau) and thecountless peop
