17、-er than 与 no more / -er than 结构比较： John is not better than Tom. 与 John is no better than Tom.前一句表示“约翰不比汤姆好”，属于普通的比较结构；后一例用了no 情况就不同了。no better than 相当于as bad as，含义是两人一样坏。这里，“no + 形容词或副词比较级 + than”所表示的可以说是该形容词或副词的反意。 例如： no richer than = as poor as 和一样穷no bigger than = as small as 和一样小 no later than

18、 = as early as 和一样早同样地： I have not taken more than six courses this semester.I have taken no more than six courses this semester.前一句的含义是本学期选的课不多于六门；后一句的含义是只选了六门。强调“少”。上述结构与表示前后都否定的no more.than (= not.any more than)又有所不同：例：A whale is no more a fish than a horse is.（鲸和马同样不是鱼。）另外，在某些结构中，单独使用more than 也

19、能表示否定概念：例1：That is more than I can tell. 我简直不能说。例2：My trip to Beijing is more than sightseeing. 我去北京不仅仅是旅游观光而已。6no more.than. (书面语)吃吃的笑，抿嘴笑，低声、轻声笑，多指因得意或领会到某事中的趣味而暗自发笑。She does not laugh out loud; she only chuckles.她没有笑出声来，只是抿嘴而笑。giggle v.咯咯地笑，痴笑，傻笑，多指女人和孩子由于紧张、被逗

30、嗤之以鼻，说它太低了。laugh v.最常用词，指因喜悦、愉快或轻视而出声的笑或大笑。grin v.露齿而笑，指人因高兴、满足、轻蔑等咧开嘴露齿地笑。He grinned at his mother.他冲他的妈妈咧嘴一笑。smile指面露微笑侧重于无声。较普通的表达，没有真正幸福感，强颜欢笑时也可用这个词。grin一般指比smile更欢畅的笑容，发自内心的高兴。另外grin有时也指露出牙齿充满敌意的笑。比较：友善的微笑：a friendly smile（常用表达） a friendly grin（常用表达）两者都用，grin 从心底感到高兴的可能性较大。假笑、装笑：a plastic smile（常用表达） a plastic grin（错误的英语表达或英美人认为不地道的表达）grin为自然的笑，所以不能说plastic grin。狰狞的笑：a frightening smile（错误的英语表达或英美人认为不地道的表达）a frightening grin（常用表达） grin 有露出牙齿笑之意，而smile 没有，所以不能说a frightening smile。roar v.怒吼，咆哮，引申为放声大笑，哄堂大笑。He roared when he heard the joke.听完这个笑话，他哈哈大笑。guffaw捧腹大笑、大笑、狂笑。
