3、t amount of money offered by the enemies made their palms itchy. They couldnt resist the temptation to become rich at once instead of struggling for a lifetime to earn only a little. At last they did some bad things, damaging the interests of their country.However, the character of a man is, as a ru

4、le, determined in his childhood. At that time, his parents, as well as his teachers, must inform them of the dagger of temptation.LazinessAs everyone knows , laziness is a sin(罪孽). We have probably all had lectures pointing out that laziness is immoral and wasteful, and that lazy people will never a

5、mount to anything in life. But some people who appear to be lazy are suffering from much more serious problems. They may be so distrustful(不信任的) of their fellow workers that they are unable to join in any group task for fear of ridicule(嘲笑) or fear of having their ideas stolen. These people who seem

6、 lazy may be paralyzed(使麻痹)by a fear of failure that prevents fruitful(富有成效的)work. Or other sorts of fantasies(幻想) may prevent work. Some people are so busy planning, sometimes planning great deals of fantastic achievement, that they are unable to deal with whatever “lesser” work on hand.Nevertheles

7、s, laziness can actually be helpful to procrastinators(延迟). Some people may look lazy when they are really thinking, planning, contemplating(冥思苦想), or researching. We should all remember that some great scientific discoveries occurred by chance or while someone were thinking deeply. So be careful wh

8、en youre tempted to call someone lazy. That person may be thinking or planning his or her next work.Rumor(谣言)Rumor is the most primitive(原始的) way of spreading storiesby passing them on from mouth to mouth. But civilized(文明的) countries in normal times have better sources of news than rumor. They have

9、 radio, television, and newspaper.In times of stress and confusion, however, rumor emerges and becomes widespread. Rumors spread especially rapidly during wars when the customary news sources no longer give out enough information. Since the people cannot learn through legitimate(合法的) channels, rumor

10、 thrives(繁荣).Ever those who do not believe them often repeat rumors. There is a fascination(魅力) about them. The reason is that the cleverly designed(设计好的) rumor gives expression to something deep in the hearts of the victims(牺牲者). Pessimistic(悲观的) rumors about defeat and disasters show that the peop

11、le who repeat them are worried and anxious. Optimistic rumors about production record or peace bring about confidence-and often overconfidence. EMOTIONShowing feelingsWhat makes life worth living? There are many possible answers to this question such as “good health”,”a comfortable home”, “plenty of

12、 friends” or”long holidays”. But these things would not make life worth living, unless we were able to enjoy them. Whether or not we can enjoy these things depends on the emotions.Emotion is the word we use to describe feelings such as love, hatred(仇恨),joy, sorrow(悲痛), fear, anger, hope, gloom(忧郁的心情

13、), etc. These feelings play an important part in our lives: they not only influence our happiness but also affect our health. Any strong emotion produces certain changes inside the body. For example, when a person is frightened or angry, his heart beats faster and the activity of his stomach stops.

14、If he is frequently frightened or angry these changes will be taking place all the time. If this goes on for long, his health will be affected. He will begin to suffer from tiredness, stomach trouble, sleeplessness and loss of weight. These changes are sometime described as “suffering from his nerve

15、s”. Actually, it is not his nerves that are responsible for his suffering, but his emotion.People often speak of the need of control emotions. And intelligent man will constantly monitor(监视)his emotions. It is true that emotions can surge(汹涌) up so quickly that you may do something on the spur of th

16、e moment you will regret later. One thing you can do when you have a strong feeling - whether it is a good one or a bad one - is to try to determine what caused it. If it is a bad feeling, then you will know to keep away from situation like that in the future. If it is a good feeling, then you will

17、know what will give you more good feeling.Another way to control your emotions is to tall about how you feel with other people. If you can say why you feel bad, then you will be halfway to getting a grip(控制) on that feeling. It will be as though the thinking part of the brain is helping the feeling

18、part of your brain slow down a little. Some emotions are better avoided completely. The cold, sinister(恶意的), snake-like emotions of hate and jealousy(妒忌) should always be contained(泰然自若的) as soon as they begin to tempt(引诱) a person. Jealousy and hate make a person mentally small and stupid. They sho

19、uld not be shown and they should be extinguished(熄灭).LaughterLaughter is surely one of humanitys(人道, 人性) greatest gifts, for the ability to laugh- to appreciate the pleasure or absurdity(荒谬) in daily activities- allows people, young and old alike, to keep problems in perspective(洞察力). Children are n

In situations, both appropriate(适当的) and inappropriate , the chuckles(咯咯地笑), giggles(傻笑), and outright peals(洪亮的) of laughter of children can emphasize their innocence(清白), their joyful ignorance(无知) of the problems of the world. Levity(轻率) among adults is, unfortunately, far less c

21、ommon, but it is equally welcome. How fortunate are the adults who can react to potentially(潜在地) frustrating(使人沮丧的) situations- a collapsed(倒塌的) tent(帐篷), a split(劈开) seam(缝) in a pair of pants(裤子), a surprise guest- and see the sheer(全然的) absurdity(荒谬) of their attempts to maintain absolute control

22、. Laughter expresses pleasure, eases(缓和) tension, and lifts the spirit,. It is a gift we should all share more often.Facial(脸的)l expressionWe have two different faces we can show the world. We can smile, or we can frown(皱眉). The face we choose to put on each day affects us a lot. Smiling is, of cour

23、se, the better way to live.Smiling keeps us healthy. When we frown, we tighten(绷紧) up our faces and our bodies become tense(绷紧的,紧张的). A smiling face is a relaxed face. Worrisome(令人烦恼的) thoughts often swirl(打旋) in their minds: what kind of impression(印象) am I making? Do they like me? Do I sound stupid? If shyness is maki

27、ng you uncomfortable, it may be time for a few lessons in self-confidence. Shy ness can be overcome with determined(已下决心的) and patient efforts in building self-confidence. You can build your confidence by following some suggestions.First, make decision not to hold back in conversation. What you have

28、 to say is just as important as what other people say. And dont turn down party invitations(邀请) just because of your shyness.Second, prepare yourself for being with others in groups. Make a list of the good qualities you have. Then make a list of ideas, experiences, and skills you would like to shar

Then say it.Third, if you start feeling self-conscious(不自然的) in group, take a deep breath and focus your attention on other people. Remember, you are not alone. The most inefficient(无效率的) way of handing tiredness and pressure is to take stimulant(兴奋剂) or drugs.Everyone has only 24 hours a day, and a limited number of years to live. So we need to admit limitations of physical and mental strength, and t

40、o keep within those limits. HappinessHow to be happyHappiness is them most precious thing in life. Without it, a man will feel that his ill fate has taken charge of (支配) him and the world is utterly(完全地) dark and dreadful(可怕的). On that account,his body grows weaker, his work slackens(变松弛), and above

41、 all, he thinks he would rather die than live. ”how to be happy, then?” you may ask. Now, this is the very puzzle that we are going to solve. As long as one thinks hes content and satisfied, he is happy.As everything exist only because its opposite(对立的), happiness exists only when pain exists.
