1、ChongqingUniversity(CQU)isakeynationaluniversityinChina,directlyundertheStateMinistryofEducation,itisalsooneofthe211Projectand985Project”universitieswithfullsupportintheconstructionanddevelopmentfromthecentralandlocalGovernmentofChina.CQUislocatedinShapingbaDistrict,aculturalandeducationalcenterinth

2、ecityofChongqing,amajormunicipalityofindustryandcommerceintheSouthwestofChina,aneconomiccenterontheupperreachesofYangtzeRiver.Foundedin1929,ChongqingUniversityhadbecomeanationalcomprehensiveuniversityconsistingofsixcollegesinliberalarts,science,engineering,lawscienceandmedicalscienceearlyin1940s,thu

3、searnedaprestigebothdomesticandabroadthenforitsoutstandingperformanceineducation.AlargenumberoffamousscholarssuchasLiSiguang,MaYinchu,HeLu,etc.,dedicatedtotheestablishmentofasolidacademicfoundation.In1952,thenationwiderestructuringofhighereducationturnedChongqingUniversityintoanengineering-orientate

4、dmulti-disciplinaryuniversityundertheStateMinistryofEducation.In1960,ChongqingUniversitywasdesignatedasoneofthefirstkeynationaluniversities.Sincetheimplementationofreformandopening-uppolicyin1China,ChongqingUniversityhasstressedthedevelopmentofdisciplineslikehumanities,businessmanagement,art,sportse

5、ducation,whichhasfurtherspeduptheprocessofdevelopingitselfintoacomprehensiveinstitutionofhigherlearning.Tomeettheneedsofhighereducationdevelopmentinthe21stcentury,andtofurtherenhancetheuniversitysoverallstrength,inaccordancewiththeStateresolutiononinstitutionalreformofuniversities,ChongqingUniversit

6、ymergedwithChongqingJianzhuUniversityandChongqingArchitecturalCollegeonMay312000,forminganewChongqingUniversity.Inmaintainingitspreviousdisciplinaryadvantageinmechanicalandelectricalengineering,energy,materialscience,informationtechnology,bioengineering,businessadministration,themergerupgradedthenew

7、ChongqingUniversitysacademicstatusinChinainthefieldsofarchitecture,civilengineeringandenvironmentalstudies.Foritsfurtherconstructionanddevelopment,andwiththegreatersupportoftheStateMinistryofEducationandChongqingMunicipalGovernmentintermsofcapitalinvestment,thenewChongqingUniversityreadjusteditseduc

8、ationphilosophy,formulateditsdevelopmentstrategyduringthetenthfive-yearplanperiod,reviseditstalent-cultivation2schemeandteachingprogrambylayingstressonfosteringstudentsinnovationability,improvingstudentsall-roundquality.Thus,theuniversityhascarriedoutaseriesofnewmeasuresinitsteachingreform,including

9、:renownedprofessorsgivinglecturesforundergraduatestudents,bilingualteachingproject,innovativetalenttrainingprogram,thesystemforoutstandingstudentstoconductaconsecutivestudyofbachelorsdegreeandmastersdegreeprograms,etc.Besides,theuniversityhasperfecteditscreditsystembyaddingandstrengtheningthemajoran

10、dminorspecialtyprogram,theflexibleschoolingsystem,thesecond-degreeprogram,andtheoutstandingstudentstrainingprogram,etc.Theuniversityhasalsoreformeditsstandardsandmodesofchoosingundergraduatestudentsforconductingpostgraduateprogramswithouttakingtheentranceexam.Atpresent,ChongqingUniversityruns27colle

11、ges,plustheGraduateSchool,theCityCollegeofScienceandTechnology,theCollegeofContinuingEducation,theCollegeofNetworkingEducation.TheUniversitynowhasatotalenrollmentof46,000students,ofwhich16,000aremastersanddoctoralstudents,and30,000undergraduatestudents.Theuniversityowns18mobileworkstationsforpostdoc

12、toralstudy,88doctoral3programs,182masterprograms,9professionalmastersdegreeprograms,namelyMBA,EMBA,MPA,masterofengineering,and82bachelorsdegreeprogramsin8academiccategoriesofscinece,engineering,liberalarts,conomics,management,law,agricultureandeducation.Currently,theuniversityhasatotalnumberof5,800f

13、acultyandstaffmembers,amongwhichabout3000arefull-timeteachers,3membersoftheChineseAcademyofEngineeringand12contractedmembersfromotherinstitutions,7membersoftheSubjectAppraisalTeamoftheDegreeCommitteeundertheStateCouncil,5chiefscientistsoftheNational973Project,15thestate-levelmiddle-agedoryoungexpert

14、swithdistinguishedcontribution,400doctoratesupervisors,1,530fullprofessorsandassociateprofessors.ChongqingUniversitycoversatotalareaof5,700mu(about178hectares),with1.68millionsquaremetersofconstructionspace.Theuniversitylibraryiswellequippedwithmodernfacilitiesoflargescale,withacollectionof3.60milli

15、onvolumes,6000kindsofChineseandforeignperiodicals,and1.6millionvolumesofE-books.Inadditionto5electronicreadingroomswith36900kindsofe-booksandjournals,theChinaEducationResearchNetwork(CERNET)ChongqingCentralNodeissetupinthelibrary.ChongqingUniversityisin4possessionof12statekeysubjectsandkeysubjectsun

16、derthestate211Project,80provincialorministerialkeysubjects.Theuniversitysetsup9speciallyappointedprofessorpostsundertheYangtzeRiverScholarAwardProgram.Ithasestablished3nationalteachingbasesforfundamentalcoursesandanationalqualityeducationbaseforcollegestudents,8nationalkeylabsandministerialkeylabs,4

17、2provincialkeylabs,and93labsofdifferentspecialties.Moreover,ChongqingUniversityhasconstructedthedistanceeducationcenter,multi-mediaclassroomsoflargescaleandinteractiveaudio-visualclassrooms,labsortrainingcentersincooperationwithworldfamousenterprisessuchasSiemens,Microsoft,IBM,Rockwell,Omron,etc.The

18、universityhasanationalkeypublishinghouse,anationalfirst-classarchitecturaldesigninginstitute,andafirst-classinstituteforplanninganddesign.In2001,ChongqingUniversityTechnologyParkcameintobeing,asoneofthe22state-leveluniversitytechnologyparksinChina.Nowauniqueschool-runningpatternhasbeenformedintheuni

19、versitywhichischaracterizedbyofferingawidecategoryofdisciplines,rationalizingitsdisciplinarystructure,maintainingitsprominentadvantageinengineeringdisciplines,increasingly5enrichingsciencedisciplines,andfurtherdevelopingsuchlisciplinesaseconomics,management,humanitiesandsocialsciences.Inrecentyears,

20、theuniversityhasundertakenover100nationalkeyscientificprojectsofdifferenttypes,andwon13NationalAwardsforInvention,40AwardsforScientificandTechnologicalAdvancement,4AwardsforNaturalScience,968ministerialandprovincialawards,283AwardsforTeachingAchievement.ChongqingUniversityattachesgreatimportancetoin

21、ternationalacademicexchangeandcooperation.Ithasestablishedinter-universityexchangelinkswithover100institutionsofhighereducationin20countriessuchastheUSA,England,France,Germany,Italy,Canada,Australia,Holland,Japan,SouthKorea,Russia,etc.Sincetheimplementationofthereformandopening-uppolicy,ChongqingUni

22、versityhassentnearly3000teachersabroadforfurtherstudy,attendinginternationalacademicconference,orforacademicvisits;andreceivedover7200overseasscholarsincludingsomeworldfamousscholarslikeDr.Z.N.Yang,Dr.Z.D.Li,Dr.C.L.Tien,Dr.L.R.Klein.Besides,theuniversityhasforgedcooperativerelationswithabout20presti

23、giousinternationalcorporationsorinstitutionssuchasSiemens,RockwellAutomation,IBM,Microsoft,LipoGroup,New6YorkLifeInsurance,Omron,ABB,Ford,etc.ChongqingUniversityisauthorisedbytheMinistryofEducationtoreceiveoverseasstudentswiththeChineseGovernmentScholarship.In2010,morethan900internationalstudentsare

24、studyingatChongqingUniversity,fromover80countries.CQUhassetuptwoConfuciousInstitutesinThailandandItalyrespectively,incooperationwithBetongCitygovernmentandSantAnnaSchoolofHigherLearning.ThegrowthofChongqingUniversityhasreceivedmuchattentionandconcernfromthestateleaders.JiangZemin,LiPeng,andLiLanqing

25、onceinspectedtheuniversityandfullyaffirmeditsachievements.GraduatesfromChongqingUniversityareverymuchwelcomedbyemployersfortheirhighoverallqualityandstrongcapability.Everyyeartherearealargenumberofwellnotedenterprisesororganizationscomingtotheuniversityforemployingitsgraduates,whichmakestheuniversit

26、ykeepagoodtrendintheemploymentofitsgraduatestudents.Sinceitsfounding,ChongqingUniversityhasbecomeanimportanteducationbaseaswellasaresearchcenter,providingthecountrywithmorethan200,000advancedprofessionalswhohavebecomethebackboneinthenationseconomicconstruction.Thereareover40aluminioftheuniversitywho
