7、untry has obtained certain outstanding achievement. But there are also disadvantages. Many studentshave been learning English for more than ten years, but they still even cannot read texts and dont understand clearly the original film and music, even more students dont communicate with foreigners di

8、rectly. Over all, College English education level is not high, the traditional teaching mode is rigid, they often spend much time in studding English ,but the effect is lower (Dickinson 18). English talents from college is excellent in language knowledge, but the abilityoflanguage communication is v

9、ery poor, they know a little foreign culture, they can gethigh marks but poor competence which phenomenon is very common in China. In the 21st century, with the application of network technology, English education in China has brought an enormous and far-reaching influence, making English teaching m

10、ethods and learning methods change a lot. In 2007, education department issued “a new college English curriculum requirements “that stated clearly that the new teaching model should be built by the support of information technology, which lets the English teaching is not limited by time and place, t

11、o warding the personalized learning, autonomous learning in the direction of development. It shows that College students autonomous learning has become the focal point and core of college English teaching reform. Finally those improve the learning ability of college students and set the stage for li

12、fe-longlearning. The paper analyzes the factors that is divided into two parts .Those are internal cause and external cause which affect college students autonomous learning English in China. First, it shows the connotation of autonomous learning and the influencing factors of college students auton

13、omous learning English in China for personal and social significance. Second, it analyzes mainly the internal causes of affecting college students autonomous learning English and external of affecting college students autonomous learning English. Third, the article shows that survey design and analy

14、sis, and finally the author summarize the whole thesis and once again points out the importance of comparative study in this thesis.Key words: analysis; factor; influencing; college; autonomous; learning; English 摘要 在过去的几十年里,我国的高校英语教育取得了一定令人瞩目的成绩,但是也存在很多不足之处。很多学生经过十几年的英语学习,甚至读不懂外文原版书籍,听不懂外文原版电影和歌曲,更

15、不会和外国人直接交流。整体说来,高校英语教育水平不高,教学模式传统死板,英语学习费时低效,高校所培养出来的英语人才语言知识掌握的虽好,但是语言交际运用能力很差,对外国文化习俗知之甚少,高分低能的现象极为普遍。进21 世纪,随着网络技术的应用,给我国的英语教育带来了巨大而深远的影响,使英语教学方法和学习方法发生了变革。2007 年教育部高教司颁布了新版大学英语课程教学要求,明确指出新的教学模式应以现代信息技术,特别是网络技术为支撑,使英语教学不受时间和地点的限制,朝着个性化学习,自主学习的方向发展。由此可见,大学生的自主学习成为高校英语教学改革的焦点与核心。本文试图通过对大学生自主学习的影响因素

Introduction With the rapid development of science and technology, social progress has change a lot .Now, lifelong learning is no longer a choice but a survival question for social individuals, autonomous learning ability is becoming more and more important

19、. As in other fields, the language education of autonomous learning is becoming more and more attentive. The improvement of college students English autonomous learning ability(especially its revolutionthat is shifted from the autonomous consciousness to the autonomous practice )is not a simple long

20、itudinal straight line process, the existence of many influence factors make it difficult and complicated (Harcourt Brace 199). Our country have been exploring college English classroom teaching method for a long time, in order to improve teaching efficiency ,education department and many scholars t

21、ry their best to complete it .therefore they think a lot of ways such as the use of multimedia classroom teaching and extracurricular, practice teaching etc., But the teacher is the teaching guider, students is the teaching subject, teaching efficiency can been improved truly when only students expe

22、nd their learning initiative and enthusiasm in learning ,wherever is both in class or outside of class Only when improve students ability of autonomous learning ,students can absorb knowledge and apply to real life and improve their practice ability. We meet many causes preventing our autonomous lea

23、rning, The factors are divided into two parts that are internal cause and external cause. Internal cause includes learning interest and learning aim and learning mood etc. External cause includes teaching mode and environment and companion etc. I will analyze mainly those causes in the paper. Fianly

24、 the paper will get many conclusions according to investigation.2. What is autonomous learning?Autonomous learning is that students can master their own learning, it is not a completely independent to complete learning tasks, it is that students emphasizes the learner as the focus and take advantage

25、 of effective use of all resources, it is the learning way that is opposite of learning by other peoples help and warning. Therefore it has much difference from autonomous learning. They have obvious differences between them; “self-study” is only a part of autonomous learning. It can be divided into

26、 three aspects: first part is that learners should have activity plans and arrangements in advance for their own learning; the seconds part that they should have activities supervision evaluation and feedback for their own learning, the last part is they must to adjust their own learning activities,

27、 shaping and control.Due to the different researchers has different definition about autonomous learning theory position and Angle of view, so the unity on the definition of autonomous learning is very difficult. Zimmerman told a systemic summary about the definition of autonomous learning, summing

28、up a total of three characteristics: (1) emphasizing the metacognitio, motivation and behavior aspects of the use of the self adjusting strategy;(2) the emphasis on autonomous learning is a kind of Self directed feedback loop process ,he think autonomous learners can monitor the effect of their lear

29、ning methods and strategies, according to the feedback and adjust their learning process;(3) emphasis on autonomous learners should know that themselves make arrangement plan correctly according their condition .3 .The significance of English autonomous learning Comparing high school learning, Unive

30、rsity difference is active consciously learn to give priority .the college must to reduce dependence on teachers. University extent knowledge in depth and breadth based on high school. Classroom teaching is often an outline button collar, teachers teach only difficult speaking, the suspects, and the

31、 key and part the teachers experience in the classroom, the rest need them to learn understand and mastery through themselves, and this will require a strong learning consciousness, not like high school students by the teacher assigned, check and supervision (Holec 124). Therefore, cultivating and i

32、mproving the ability of autonomous learning, is very necessary for college students. Learning in the university cant depend on teachers plan and arrangement; students cant simply and blindly accept the classroom teaching content and point of view, we must develop the subjective initiative fully and

33、our potential in the study extent the critical learning and finally form their own unique academic views and opinions. The study way throughout the whole process of college learning and reflect a lot of aspects of university life. Such as learning, learning content and the choice of the learning met

34、hod and so on. Today, knowledge update quickly, humans knowledge would double about three years, we have to learn to updated knowledge after we graduated from university and work, because the professional demand and knowledge of the rapid depreciation. At the same time, a lot of people will often sw

35、itch careers in real life, we need to learn the professional knowledge and skills of the corresponding in their transformation .only in this way, we can adapt to a rapid changing society and survival. Therefore, it is not good during the university if we can not keep autonomous learning habit and up

36、dated knowledge We must change the traditional normal education form that the teacher is circle and adapt often the autonomous way, therefore As everyone knows, English is very important today. It has been used everywhere in the world. It has become the most common language on Internet and for inter

37、national trade. If we can speak English well, we will have more chance to succeed. Because more and more people have taken notice of it, the number of the people who go to learn English has increased at a high speed. under the new conditions that knowledge is exploring , knowledge become rapid depre

38、ciation , people must change the traditional normal education that teacher play a very important role. We. must adopt the way of self directed learning (autonomous learning) to gain the knowledge of the skills that are required to work life. In addition, the new type of lifelong education system mus

39、t be based on security of individual lifelong learning, and autonomous learning skills are very essential to our life (Chen 2008). Secondly, the current school education on various aspects of the outstanding problems can be resolved through the introduction of autonomous learning mode. At the same t

40、ime, in terms of the student individual character, autonomous learning can also meet the needs of personality development, and improve the quality of learning.4. Investigation of factors affecting Chinese college students autonomous learning 4.1. Research designOn the basis of the literature review

41、of learner English autonomy and the view of factors affecting college students English autonomous learning, a questionnaire and an in-depth interview were carefully designed and carried out4.1.1. 0bjectives of the Investigation The study Was designed to address the Following four questions:1. What g

42、eneral attitudes do Chinese college students hold toward learner autonomy?in English as a foreign Language at present?2. What are the factors and what extent they affect Chinese students English autonomous learning?3. Are there any correlations between learners language proficiency and internal and

43、external Factors. 4. The influence of Chinese culture on college students autonomous learning 4.1.2 Subjects The subjects who participated in this research were 500 college Students (270 males,230 females)from four universities. Details of the participants Are presented in the following tabular form

We took the subjects from Henan University of technology and Zhengzhou University as proficient language learners, and those from Zhengzhou University of Light Industry and Henan University of Economi

46、cs and Law as less proficient ones according to their performance in the college entrance examination4.1.3 Instruments4.1.3.1 QuestionnaireThe data for this research were collected through a 75 item questionnaireThe questionnaire was divided into five parts:part one with 13 items was the ground info

47、rmation of the learners;part two with 10 items pained attention to the learners views on English learning;part three with 20 items aimed at investigating what learners do during the learning process;part four with 15 items described the current learning environment, and finally part five with 17 ite

48、ms was designed to find learners beliefs and attitudes in learner autonomy in EFL4.13.2 In-depth InterviewAfter the questionnaire survey, in order to state some dim ideas reflected from the questionnaire, the author conducted an indepth interview with 20 students, half from Henan University of techn

49、ology and half from Zhengzhou University, who attended the questionnaire investigationAmong them were ten male students and ten female students of kind degrees of language proficiencyThe fifty-minutes interviews, in their native Chinese, were taped in a relaxed atmosphere, So that the students could

50、 feel free to express themselves and later they were transcribed4.1.4 Data collection and analysis The questionnaire survey was carried out in late November and early December 2013Data were collected from four universities:Henan University of technology and Zhengzhou University Zhengzhou University

51、of Light Industry and Henan University of Economics and Law , which is only well known in that city and the students there ale mostly from different areas of that city and are comparatively at a lower level of language proficiencyTo ensure the return rate and the subjects seriousness in completing t

52、he questionnaire and to avoid misunderstanding of some of the items when the subjects have some problems in understanding, the questionnaire investigation was conducted during class time and with the teacher presentAll the data was collected from the questionnaire were subjected and the quantitative

53、 data analysis involves frequencies of descriptive statisticsIn order to find the relationship between learners language proficiency and internal and external factors, Parsons analysis of correlation coefficient is usedAccording to statistics decision theory, there are three correlations, namely pos
