7、s to ensure access to appropriate technology in our educational community to support and enhance student learning, staff instruction, school communication and data management. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Public School fulf川s its technology mission by offering an institutional network between the schoo

8、ls and Internet access for staff and students. This is referred to as the CMS Network. Our goal in providing this service to students is to promote educational excellence by facilitating resource sharing, innovation and communication.It is the responsibility of all Charlotte Mecklenburg School emplo

9、yees to read and sign the policy and it is the responsibility to the CMS Principals to deny Internet access to staff members who have not read and signed the policy.POLICIESStaff Internet AccessAll staff will have access through their classroom, library/media center, or computer lab to the following

10、 information resources:Electronic mail communication with people all over the worldLibrary Collections including Library of CongressPublic domain software and graphicsWorld Wide WebNews and informationDiscussion groupAll staff will have an e-mail account.Unacceptable UsesThe use of the CMS Network i

11、s provided to facilitate education. Inappropriate use will result in cancellation of computer (internet) privileges. Users should not expect privacy in the contents of personal files on the district system. Routine maintenance and monitoring of the CMS Network may lead to discovery that a staff memb

12、er has violated this Policy, or the law. All e-mail is considered public recordThe Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Telecommunications Technology Specialist or designee shall have the right to access email. The following unacceptable uses include (but are not limite

13、d to):Illegal Activities a. Transmission of x or trade information. b. Transmission of obscene or threatening material. c. Staff shall not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the CMS Network or to any other computer system through the CMS Network or go beyond authorized access. This includes atte

14、mpting to log in through another persons account or access another persons files. These actions constitute vandalism and are illegal, even if only for the purpose of browsing.d. Staff shall not use the CMS Network for commercial or personal purposes, which includes offering, providing, or purchasing

15、 products or services through the CMS Network.System Securitya. Staff are responsible for their individual file account and should take all reasonable precaution to prevent others from accessing their files. Under no conditions should staff provide their password to another person.b. Staff shall not

16、 download or transfer files without the proper software license.c. Staff shall not make deliberate attempts to disrupt the CMS computer system, or other district computer systems and networks, nor destroy data by spreading computer viruses or by any other means. These actions are illegal.TEACHER E-M

17、AIL USE POLICY? E-mail will be used as an integral form of communication within the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public School network. Teachers are encouraged to use this form of communication to facilitate communication with parents.? Faculty email names will be first name. last namexcms.k12.nc.us.(for e

In many schoolteachers are expected to check their e-mail at the beginning and end of each school dap keep current with news, meeting information, and administrative updates and policies within the building.STUDENT INTERNET ACCEPTABLE USE POLICYWest Meckl

19、enburg is fortunate to have internet access in the classroom, media center and computer labs. In order to promote the expectation of appropriate use of this medium for educational purposes, all students are required to have a signed copy of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Acceptable Use Policy on

20、file.CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG SCHOOLSBEGINNING TEACHER SUPPORT PROGRAMApplicationCharlotte-Mecklenburg Schools provides a Beginning Teacher Support Program (BTSP) for teachers in their first- third years of practice. The induction program provides the structure that maximizes beginning teacher learning

21、 in the context of classroom experience. New teachers learn from veteran teachers; schools increase the possibility of retaining strong, well-trained educators; and most important, student achievement can be elevated.StandardsWest Mecklenburg s induction programs shall meet the following requirement

22、s: ? An orientation for beginning teacher and all other incoming teachers orientation program for beginning teachers and all other incoming teachers ? Assignment of a support team that shall consist of, but not be limited toctheemic facilitator a mentor an administrator qualified to evaluate teacher

23、s, and a lead teacher.? Opportunities to participate iprofessional development and common planning (i.e.: Critical Friends, Math, Reading, etc.)The intent of the induction program is to provide teachers with a systematic structure of support that helps them become familiar with their school and dist

24、rict refine their practice and better understand their professional responsibilities. The program is an integral part of a teacherfirst yea r of teaching and is the beginning of a teacher professional development activities.The induction program is a fundamental part of the West MeckleA buofessional

25、 Development Plan as well as the school Improvement Plan.MentoringMentoring provides the beginning teacher with a one on one relationship with an experienced teacher. The mentoring relationship can be very rewarding, both professionally and personally, for the beginning teacher and the mentor. While

26、 the beginning teacher acquires support and a practical understanding of teaching trough the mentoring relationship, the mentor teacher is able to reflect upon and improve his/her own practice by sharing experiences and expertise. Core Mentoring ActivitiesThe mentoring relationship is shaped by the

27、activities that a mentor and beginning teacher participate in together. As part of the licensure regulations include classroom observations and other mentoring activities. These activities should help the beginning teacher improve upon practice and develop an understanding of the Professional Standa

28、rds for Teachers. The activities may include: ? Meeting frequently during the school year to plan curriculuchleissons? Observing one another s classroom? Coteaching the beginning teacher s classs practice in relation to evaluation? Analyzing and assessing the beginning teacher criteria in order to h

29、elp the beginning teacher improve.Roles and ResponsibilitiesBeginning Teacher:? Play an active role in the mentoring relations Aipoeginning teacher can do this by offering critical reflections on his (her) own practice and identifying areas in which assistance is needed.? Seek out helpT he beginning

30、 teacher must understand that he or she must seek out support team members, be forthright in communicating classroom issues, and remain open to feedback in order to develop as a professional.? Observe experience teachers at wohe beginning teacher should adhere to a schedule of observations of experi

31、enced teachers. The beginning teacher could keep a log to record and reflect on the diversity of their styles.? Participate regularly in programs organized for beginning teacThese include peer support groups, professional development seminars and beginning teacher workshops. Mentor:? Ensure a strong

32、 start to the yeMentors can help beginning teachers launch into a productive year by making sure they know where to obtain all needed materials and are familiar with routines and schedules.? Provide instructional supporThis includes, but is not limited to:o Regular observation of and conferencing wi

33、th the beginning teacher;o Support in teaching and learning standards of the state curriculum frameworks;o Refining various teaching strategies;o Addressing issues such as classroom management and communicating effectively with parents;o Recognizing and addressing multiple learning styles and indivi

34、dual student needs.? Provide professional suppoBeginning teachers need to be informed of school policies and procedures, particularly regarding standards and procedures for teacher evaluation. Principals and Directors as well as Mentors should be a resource for information on evaluation and professi

35、onal practice.? Provide personal suppoMentors can help relieve the stress on first time teachers by introducing them to other faculty member and helping the beginning teacher to put problems in perspective with support and encouragement.? Maintain a confidential relationship with the beginntngcher.

36、It is important that the beginning teacher be able to discuss problems openly with the mentor, so that they may be addressed in a timely and informed manner.? Serve as a liaisoThe mentor should have the knowledge and skills to refer the beginning teacher to others teachers and educational resources,

37、 so that the beginning teacher is exposed to a variety of perspectives and instructional practices.? Serve as a resourdnform the beginning teacher of opportunities and supports provided by various professional associations.? Attend mentor training? Attend district wide scheduled mentor meetings thro

38、ughout the yearPrincipal:The roles and responsibilities of the principal may vary by level. The principal may choose to share the following responsibilities with the assistant principal, deans or academic facilitator.? For example, the beginning teacher could be assigned a moderate teaching load, a course load with relatively few preparations, few extra-curricular dut

When you know that you will be absent, please call as soon as possible. You are also expected to provide lesson plans for th

43、e substitute who will be assigned to cover your class. (Please see substitute section of this handbook for additional information.)COMMUNICATIONEducating students is a team effort involving the student, parent, teacher, and administrators. Open communication is the key success. Parents will want to

44、know that the teacher is willing to talk, listen, and work cooperatively. It is important to establish contact as early as possible in the school year, preferably before a problem escalates. It i recommended that the teacher either make a phone call or send home a letter of introduction during the f

45、irst few days of school. Frequent contact will improve the effectiveness of communication.Note: It is a district expectation that all phone calls directed to your attention be returned within 24 hours.CONFIDENTIALITYAs a professional, it is expected that you maintain a sense of CONFIDENTIALITY when

46、dealing with colleagues, students, and parents.DRESSAlthough the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools does not have a formal dress code, it is important to remember that as an educator you are a leader and role model for children. You should make appropriate decisions in your attire. No jeans, tank tops, s

47、weat suits, flip flopsE-MAIL ELECTRONIC MAILNearly all communication is done in the form of e-mail. Please be sure to check your email at least twice a day.EXTRA DUTIESTeachers will be required to serve in many capacities, which may include bus duty, hall duty, extra-curricular activities, lunchroom

48、 duty, pre and post bell duties etc. Fulfilling duties such as these enables the teacher to contribute to the total success of the schoolGRADING PROCEDURESE-SIS grade books are expected to be maintained weekly. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools operates with four nine-weeks grading periods.Testing and r

49、eport card calendars for the 2011-2012 school year are available on the CMS web site.Grading ScaleA93-100B85-92C77-84D70-76F00-69INCLEMENT WEATHERSchool closings and delayed openings are announced on local television and radio stations. You may also receive a Connect Ed call from your home school.LE

50、AVING THE ROOM UNATTENDEDStudents are the legal responsibility of the teacher. Leaving the class unattended constitutes negligence this statement also includes sitting students outside of the classroom for any reason.LESSON PLANSLesson Plans are required. Planning is the foundation of a good lesson.

51、 Clear, concise, and sequential plans are necessary. Effective planning encourages one to think specifically before teaching a lesson. It brings to focus the sequence and continuity of learning and provides one with a point of reference during teaching. Use the curriculum map as a guide.PUNCTUALITY/

52、SIGN-IN PROCESSAll teachers must sign-in using your fingerprint. By contract, all teachers are expected to arrive at their school no later than 6:45 a.m. It is also a professional courtesy to arrive at faculty and other scheduled meetings on time.RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYSPlease be considerate of students/s

53、taff celebrating religious holidays. The list of religious observances is on the calendar issued by the Superintendentbeginnirogfofe at thethe school year. Note the dates and plan class work, homework, and test/quizzes accordingly.RESPONSIBILITY FOR ASSESSMENT DATAThe Testing Accountability Facilita

54、tor will provide training for standardized testing each semester. You will be trained on testing security, testing protocol and handling testing materials.TECHNOLOGYAll CMS employees are required to adhere to the Acceptable Use Policy. At the beginning of each school year all CMS employees will be r

55、equired to read the Acceptable Use Policy and accept the terms of the district-provided access to electronic information services and networks. The teacher must be familiar with the policies and regulations for use of district-provided Internet access.VIDEO POLICYTeachers are expected to carefully p

56、lan and exercise professional judgment and discretic in selecting videos to use for classroom instruction. Videos should be used on a limited basis in the classroom. See CMS guideline for further information.STUDENT SPECIFIC INFORMATIONExtended Day TutorinSessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday fr

57、om 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Transportation is provided for these sessions pending Charlotte Mecklenburg (CMS) approval.Field Trips ALL field trips must be approved by CMS. See the Barbara Babb Senior Administrative Secretary to secure the appropriate forms 4 weeks in advance of the planned trip.Personali

58、zed Education Plans (PEP)It is developed by educators, parents and counseloraiared at addressing students individual needs in order to improve academic performance. The P.E.P utilizes best practices in education though activities and lessons that incorporate numerous teaching methodologies aimed at

59、targeting academic weaknesses to ensure progress. A meeting with the parent/guardian will take place to explain the P.E.P in detail prior to implementation followed by periodic process checking throughout the year to insure alignment with the students needs.Special Education Requirements and IEP Inf

60、orm atiohteachers are responsible for reviewing the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each special education student served. See the Special Education Department for more detailed information.Student Dress Code Enforcementll certified and classified personnel will be responsible for consistent

61、ly reporting violations of the dress code to the site administrator or security associate. Refer to the CMS student dress code for additional guidelines.Transporting Student s Teachers may not transport students to and from school nor school sponsored/approved activities due to liability constraints

62、.Health and Wellness Services? School health services? Department of Social ServicesHEALTH SERVICESEMERGENCY CARDS:It is imperative that each student and all staff have emergency information on file in the Health Office. Homeroom teachers should instruct students to take the emergency form home for

63、completion and return it on the next school day. Homeroom teachers should NOT accept a form unless it is completely filled out. Homeroom teachers should alphabetize the forms and send them to the Office (of their individual buildings) with a list of students who have NOT returned the information.STU

64、DENT MEDICATIONAll students taking prescribed medicine during school must see the nurse and bring in proper documentation from their doctor so that proper medication is dispensed and legal regulations are met.ACCIDENT PROCEDURE FOR STUDE NTSWhen a student is injured on school property during the school day, he/she must report to, or be taken to, the Health Office immediately.An incident report must be completed by the witness and submitted to the administrative office.ACCIDENT PROCEDURE FOR STAFFAll accidents or injuries that occur in the school building or on the school grounds must be repo
