、择题We all know that the normal human daily cycle of activity is of some 7-8 hours sleep alternating with some 16-17 hours wakefulness and that, broadly speaking, the sleep normally coincides with the hours of darkness. Our present concern is with how easily and to what extent this cycle can be modifi

、ed.The question is no mere academic one. The ease, for example, with which people can change from working in the day to working at night is a question of growing importance in industry where automation calls for round-the-clock working of machines. It normally takes from five days to one week for a

、person to adapt to a reversed routine of sleep and wakefulness, sleeping during the day and working at night. Unfortunately, it is often the case in industry that shifts are changed every week, a person may work from 12 midnight to 8 a.m. one week, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. the next, and 4 p.m. to 12 midnigh

、t the third and so on. This means that no sooner has he got used to one routine than he has to change to another, so that much of his time is spent neither working nor sleeping very efficiently.The only real solution appears to be to hand over the night shift to a number of permanent night workers.

、An interesting study of the domestic life and health of night-shift workers was carried out by Brown in 1957. She found a high incidence of disturbed sleep and other disorders among those on alternating day and night shifts, but no abnormal occurrence of these phenomena among those on permanent nigh

、t work.The latter system then appears to be the best long-term policy, but meanwhile something may be done to relieve the strains of alternate day and night work by selecting those people who can adapt most quickly to the changes of routine. One way of knowing when a person has adapted is by measuri

People engaged in normal daytime work will have a high temperature during the hour of wakefulness and low one at night; when they change to night work the pattern will only gradually go back to match the new routine and the speed with which it does so parallels, broadly spea

Therefore, by taking body temperature at intervals of two hours throughout the period of wakefulness it can be seen how quickly a person can adapt to a reversed routine, and this could be used as basis for selection.

、So far, however, such a form of selection does not seem to have been applied in practice.1. Why is the question of “how easily people can get used to working at night” not a mere academic question?2. The main problem of the round-the-clock working system lies in .3. 15、eople have higher temperatures when they are working efficiently问题5选项A.Body temperature may serve as an indication of a workers performance.B.The selection of a number of permanent night shift workers has proved to be the best solution to problems of the round-the-clock working system.C.Taking body

、temperature at regular intervals can show how a person adapts to the changes of routine.D.Disturbed sleep occurs less frequently among those on permanent night or day shifts.【答案】第1题:D第2题:B第3题:C第4题:D第5题:B【解析】第1题:推理判断题。

The ease, for example, with which people can change from working in the day to working at night is a question of growing importance in industry where automation calls for round-the-clock working of machines(例如,在自动化要求机器24小时运转的工业中,人们能否从白天工

It normally takes from five days to one week for a person to adapt to a reversed routine of slee

、p and wakefulness, sleeping during the day and working at night. Unfortunately, it is often the case in industry that shifts are changed every week, a person may work from 12 midnight to 8 a.m. one week, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. the next, and 4 p.m. to 12 midnight the third and so on.(一个人通常需要五天到一周的时间来适应一种相反

The only real solution appears t

、o be to hand over the night shift to a number of permanent night workers.(唯一真正的解决办法似乎是把夜班交给一些长期从事夜班工作的人),C选项是该句的同义替换,所以答案选C。 People engaged in normal daytime

、 work will have a high temperature during the hour of wakefulness and low one at night; when they change to night work the pattern will only gradually go back to match the new routine and the speed with which it does so parallels, broadly speaking, the adaptation of the body as a whole, particularly

、 in terms of performance.(白天从事正常工作的人在清醒时体温高,夜间体温低;当他们改变到夜间工作模式时,这种模式只会逐渐恢复到与新的工作模式相匹配,而这种模式的速度,广义上说,与身体整体的适应相一致,特别是在工作表现方面。)

The only real solution appears to be to hand over the night shift to a number of permanent night workers.(唯一真正的解决办法似乎是把夜班交给一些长期从事夜班工作的人。),这里一个appears to与B选项中的has proved to be造成冲突,所以答案选B;第四段第三句话People engaged in normal daytime work will have a high temperature during the h

、our of wakefulness and low one at night;(白天从事正常工作的人在清醒时体温高,夜间体温低;)从这里可以知道人们在工作时体温高,休息时体温低,所以体温可以作为人们判断工人是否工作的依据,A选项正确,所以不选;第四段第二句One way of knowing when a person has adapted is by measuring his body temperature.(了解一个人何时适应的方法之一是测量他的体温)这句是选项C的同义替换,所以不选;第二段最后一句话This means that no sooner has he got used

、 to one routine than he has to change to another, so that much of his time is spent neither working nor sleeping very efficiently.(这就意味着他刚适应一种工作方式就又得转向另一种工作方式,所以他在大部分时间里工作和睡觉的效率都很低。) Every artist knows in his heart that h

Not only( ) he want to say it well, but he wants it to be something which has not been said before.(他不仅想把它说得好,而且想让它成为以前没有说过的东西)。

A选项

A选项take out“去掉,拿走”;B选项 make out“理解,辨认”;C选项do out“打扫,收拾”D选项speak out“畅所欲言”。

、。空格前面的they是指的these aspects of the world,这里指的是世界包含美丽的景色,所以答案选B。 从后面的which there are nothing more in it 可知答案选C。

A选项other“其他的”;B选项another“另一个”;C选项otherwise“否则”

、;D选项also“也”。 A选项the nature“本质”;B选项a conclusion“结局,结论”;C选项the same thi

Their choices indicate that these aspects of the world(他们的选择表明了这个世界的这些方面)所以这里空格处应该和前文保持一致,答案选D。 能够和all of连用的关系代词只有A选项which,所以答案选A。

Each painter is telling us something, showing us something, emphasizing something,我们也不能分辨出画家是否是有意还是无意地在表达些什么,所以答案选D。 第一段最后一句he wants to teach them,全文上下应该保持一致,所以答案选B。4. 单选题By contrast, American mothers were m

、ore likely( ) their childrens success( )natural talent.问题1选项A.to contribute.toB.to attribute.inC.to attributetoD.to contributein【答案】C【解析】考查固定搭配。句意:相反地,美国母亲更倾向于把他们孩子的成功()天生的才能。这里根据固定搭配排除B、D;contribute to“有助于,促成”;attribute to“归因于”,这里结合句意,答案应该选C,把自己孩子的成功归因于天生的才能。5. 单选题Surgical procedures have many risk

、s _ in them.问题1选项A.attachedB.lyingC.inherentD.unseen【答案】C【解析】考查情态动词辨析。 6. 单选题His health( )all the housework if you are not careful.问题1选项A.failedB

、.has failedC.was failedD.is failing【答案】D【解析】考查时态。 7. 单选题It is time we( ) in bed. A.should beB.wereC.will beD.are【答案】A【解析】考查虚拟语气。

、A,B都可。8. 单选题Sometimes these are clearly stated but more often than not they are _ in attitudes and actions.问题1选项A.implicitB.hiddenC.existentD.covered【答案】A【解析】考查形容词辨析。

9. 单选题Although I had been invited to the opening ceremony, I was unable to attend _ such short notice. A.toB.inC.withD.on【答案】D【解析】考查固定搭配。

、理”的意思,代入句子中间不符合逻辑。10. 单选题In the next few years major changes will be( )in Chinas industries.问题1选项A.brought forwardB.brought aboutC.brought onD.brought up【答案】B【解析】考查动词辨析。A选项brought forward“提议”;B选项brought about“导致;使掉头;发生”;C选项brought on“导致,引起”;D选项brought up“提出,抚养”。句意:在接下来的几年,主要的变化将()在中国的工业。这里结合选项,空格处应该

11. 单选题A recent survey suggested that if money were not an issue, most mothers _ not to work at all. A.should preferB.preferC.would preferD.preferred【答案】C【解析】考查虚拟语气的用法。

、d+原形或者would have done,所以B和D不能选,should的本意是“应该”,would的意思是“将会”,选would句意会更加贴切,所以我们应该选C。12. I intend to deal with the problems of formulating practical and realistic plans for the application of science and technology by the government of a newly emerging country. I will specifically have in mind t

It must be made as easy as possible for the research and development personnel to be kept aware of the state of general world knowledge on a particular subject, so as not to be led by ignorance into expensive researches to find out what is already well known. The opposite danger is to assume too easily that some process, technique or method, which has long been in successful use in some other country, can be transferred without modification
