But being different, they point out hurriedly, is not the same as being better or worse. There is, however, a definite structural variation between the male and female brain. The difference is in a part of the brain that is used

、 in the most complex intellectual processesthe link between the two halves of the brain. The two halves are linked by a trunkline of between 200 and 300 million nerves, the corpus callosum. Scientists have found quite recently that the corpus callosum in women is always larger and probably richer in

、nerve fibres than it is in men. This is the first time that a structural difference has been found between the brains of women and men and it must have some significance. The question is “What?”, and if this difference exists, are there others? Research shows that present-day women think differently

、 and behave differently from men. Are some of these differences biological and inborn, a result of evolution? We tend to think that is the influence of society that produces these differences. But could we be wrong?Research showed that these two halves of the brain had different functions, and that

、the corpus callosum enabled them to work together. For most people, the left half is used for word-handling, analytical and logical activities; the right half works on pictures, patterns and forms. We need both halves working together. And the better the connections, the more harmoniously the two ha

、lves work. And, according to research findings, women have the better connections. But it isnt all that easy to explain the actual differences between skills of men and women on this basis. In schools throughout the world girls tend to be better than boys at “language subject” and boys better at math

Brain differences point to superiority of one sex over the other. C. Results of scientific research fail to support popular belief.

D. The structural difference in the brain between the sexes has long been known. (Now the biologists have moved into this minefield),他们中的一些人已经发现,男性和女性的大脑确实存在

2. According to the passage it is commonly believed that brain differences are caused by _ factors. 2. A. biological A. 生物的B. psychologica

3. “these differences” in paragraph 5 refer to those in _. 3. A. skills of men a

C. the brain structure of men and women C. D. activities carried out by the brain D. 大脑进行的活动【答案】A【考查点】词义推测题。

4. At the end of the passage the author proposes more work on _. 4. A. the b

、rain structure as a whole A. 整个大脑结构B. the functioning of part of the brain B. C. the distinction between the sexes C. D. the effects of the corpus callosum D.

、差异(we should be looking for differences in intellectual processing)。” 5. What is the main purpose of the passage? 5.

、么?A. To outline the research findings on the brain structure. B. To explain the link between sex and brain structure. C. To discuss the various factors that cause brain differences. D. To suggest new areas in brain research.

7. 单选题The Party always inculcates the duty of loyalty on the young people. A.precludes fromB.imbues withC.furnishes withD.resorts to【答案】B【解析】【选项释义】A. precludes from阻止,妨碍 B. imbues with灌输强烈的情感或意见C. furnishes with供给,提供,给装饰 D. resorts to依靠,求助于,诉诸【答案】B【考查点】词组

【解题思路】由关键信息The Party(党)和the duty of loyalty(忠诚的义务)可推测,划线单词inculcate的意思是“灌输,教导”。 8. 单选题It seems very difficult _. A.to stop the child to cryB.stopping the child to cryC.stop the child cryingD.to stop the child crying【答

A. to stop the child to cry去阻止孩子哭 B. stopping the child to cry阻止孩子哭C. stop the child crying阻止孩子哭 D. to stop the child crying去阻止孩子哭【答案】D【考查点】固定搭配。【解题思路】根据关键词difficult(困难的)可知,difficult to do sth.是固定搭配,表示“做某事是困难的”,而stop doing/to do sth. 表示“停止正在做的事情”,stop to do sth.

9. 单选题The foremost concern of the American young people in 1960s A was with B training and finding a job that could support C them in those under D times.问题1选项A.wasB.trainingC.themD.times【答案】D【解析】【答案】D【考查点】名

10. 单选题A group of young men in rags sauntered along the street.

11. 单选题Successful scientists always check statements and make new experim

、ents carefully and objectively to _ them.

D. The relation of Hopi pottery to that designed by the Mimbres.

2. The word “it” in the first sentence refers to the _. 2. A. North American West A. 北美西部B. quality of a kind of pottery B. 一种陶器的品质C. 52、相似。

、inning of the fourteenth century. D. In the middle of the fourteenth century.

5. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a design used for Hopi painted pottery? 5. Bird representations. B. Common weapons. C. Ceremonial scenes. D. Human figures.
